Et tu Barack? Et tu? Well, I guess that cinches things up tightly around our nuts, doesn’t it? If that is the consensus and they have internal polls warning of a wipeout. Who am I to argue the point? I just find it hard to believe over seven million Americans could suddenly change their minds and vote for Donald Trump after all which has occurred. Collective amnesia perhaps? Democrats should be able to get Jeffery Epstein elected President of a Middle School PTA running against Donald Trump.
Democrats should have everything going their way and yet, the fear of doom is palatable. But so be it then! Let’s trade Joe in on a newer model. But who? If we move forward on this hazardous trek to throw the ring into the volcano. We have to agree right from the start that whoever they pick as the nominee, they pick and that’s the end of the story. Shut up, no do overs! No take backs and no bottle caps! Nervous yet?
If Joe were to step back voluntarily and make a rousing speech at the convention about democracy being bigger than any one person. Do the whole Cincinnatus routine or Washington’s farewell to the troops. Old soldiers never die, they just get pushed out of office. If it is the will of my Party to serve by not serving, I will not seek nor shall I accept the nomination of my Party. Then what? Katie bar the door that’s what. Who wants to run for President on short notice?
The question then is who? Choose carefully, Kamala Harris is the obvious choice to me, but obvious is not a word Democrats commonly use. Where is our Harry Truman speaking the unvarnished truth? Where is our John Kennedy speaking about the fate of humanity? Where is our Bill Clinton playing the saxophone on Arsenio at least? There is a Native American legend I read once. About a time when all good men were gone. When no one stood up and no one came to the rescue.
This is playing with dynamite in the dark and trying to find it using lit matches! I am reminded,
“But if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science.” – Churchill
Eini Meenie Miney Moe, my mothers says to pick you! And what’s out platform then? Just the same as Joe’s only in a new package? Rousing! That will really stir the crowd sir. But it is almost unanimous, and they must know more about what is going on than I possibly could. I mean, it must be bad if Barack Obama is on board. Somebody had better pull a rabbit out of a hat. A broken mirror is still seven years of bad luck, even if you don’t like what you see.
Who then? Who then is our accidental President? Who is our voice crying in the wilderness only waiting for the tides of fate to flood the bay? No, he’s too old too! Who oozes charisma? During Donald Trump’s second impeachment Adam Schiff impressed the hell out of me. I had a “My Cousin Vinny” moment. As I thought to myself, if I were ever in real bad legal trouble. I want him to be my attorney! Extremely intelligent and incredibly articulate. But I’m a nerd and that intelligence stuff really appeals to me.
They once said Adlai Stevenson was too smart to be President and Eisenhower was just right. This is a job Richard Nixon did for six years, so let’s not quibble over the necessary qualifications. Name recognition and some sort of public approval. No skeletons in the closet. Someone who can speak calmly yet elicit excitement. Someone who can let the message go forward “to friend and foe alike.”
Democrats have a hard time explaining themselves because the Republicans do such a good job of explaining for them. Non-stop round the clock propaganda networks. Joe Biden pulls the wings off of flies for fun! Nancy Pelosi’s secret love nest! Why Dr. Fauci wants you dead! How bad is it? It’s the same as always. Why did FDR make his famous Fireside chats on the radio? Because the newspaper editors where in Republican pockets. If Roosevelt sent the text of his speech to the newspapers, it might get published on page three below the fold. The medium has changed but the message is still the same.
If the Democratic leadership has so little faith in the President, why should the electorate have faith in the Democratic leadership to pick someone better? After all, they picked Joe. And Joe has done a good job but now the leadership demands someone else. And so, it will all come down onto the shoulders of Joe Biden himself. If he fights, we lose. If he doesn’t fight and goes along with it. We might lose. It’s only Fascism, what’s the worst that could happen?
Go ahead, give Donald Trump two more Extreme Court picks, I dare you. Say goodbye to any chance at saving the environment. Say goodbye to civil rights and civil liberties! Goodbye public education! Goodbye!
If you knowingly put a criminal in charge of your government, you get what you deserve. A dog barks a pig grunts and a criminal steals. Actions have consequences, did the civilians in Berlin deserve what they got in 1945? Yes! Actions have consequences and this isn’t a game. Take your spin at your own peril, but make it count. Because you’ll only get one.
“Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing. They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor minimum wage--the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing--but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire of Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it.” ― Harry S. Truman
