The spectacle of hundreds of RNC convention-goers with bandages stuck to the side of their faces in tribute of their cult leader couldn’t help but bring back these warm memories from another Republican National Convention, this one from 2004.
As CNN reported at the time:
Delegates mock Kerry with 'purple heart' bandages
Democrats: GOP 'mocking our troops'
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Delegates to the Republican National Convention found a new way to take a jab at Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry's Vietnam service record: by sporting adhesive bandages with small purple hearts on them.
Here are some photos, then and now.
The purple heart bandages were intended to mock Kerry’s service record. Kerry received three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam, which those RNC convention-goers apparently found worthy of ridicule.
But this week, without a hint of irony, they sported bandages not in mockery of a Democratic military veteran, but in solidarity with a GOP nominee who not only never served a day in his life, but actually ridiculed fallen soldiers as “suckers and losers.”
Some things never change, it seems.
