Goodbye Joe,
You've got to go,
Me O My O,
You'll be missed,
But it's come to this
And we all know
Kamala,
She’s the one,
She's our best bet
We can work and
stop that fascist Donald Trump yet
So please Joe, let it go
Me O My O
So you can end
Your great career
As a Hero
(With apologies to Hank Williams)
It was with great reluctance and sadness that I wrote this. But the evidence is piling up. And it’s not just from the debate. That was just the kernel of the snowball.
Biden is getting whipped in the post-debate polls. Polling shows T. Rump ahead by as much as 49-41. That was the Times-Sienna poll, which we know has consistently dissed Biden, but it’s a change of three points for the worse both nationally and in battleground states, and it’s indicative of a lot of other
polling out there. Meanwhile, it turns out the White House staff has been
hiding (“managing”) Biden’s missteps for a long time, and the poor guy is only able to work a few hours a day — fine for some jobs but not for POTUS. People are catching on, and whatever enthusiasm Biden had managed to build is quickly eroding, and very likely can’t be regained.
At the same time, enthusiasm for Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee is quickly growing on social media and in various segments of the party. In an
article titled
Here Comes the ‘KHive’: Buzz for Kamala Harris Grows After Biden’s Debate Stumble, the NY Times reports that there is suddenly a lot of enthusiasm for a Harris candidacy from the Democratic base.
And the Republicans are terrified of Harris because they know that she would carry black women, more Hispanics than Biden would, and mop the floor in a one-on-one debate with the lying felon. (Remember, she was the elected Attorney General of California before becoming Biden’s VP.) In a hypothetical head-to-head poll between her and T. Rump, taken a while back, she ran just two points behind, compared to four to five points for Biden (that’s now 7-9 points, post-debate). Given T. Rump’s vulnerabilities, she could close that gap pretty quickly, and the with a suddenly rejuvenated and enthusiastic base, she could win. The Republicans are already running attack adds against her.
It’s a gamble, of course. But in desperate times, we have no other choice but to give it our best shot. Sadly, that isn’t Biden. But it could well be Harris.
