We have 17 weeks until the election.
This is GOTV time — boots on the ground, canvassing, phone calling, sending post cards time.
It is not start all over from scratch time.
A campaign doesn’t just materialize out of thin air and hit the ground running. It takes MONTHS to hire people, set up field offices, recruit canvassers, arrange fundraisers, hire organizers, plan and stage events.
FEC rules are very, very strict, so there’s no way any candidate can just take over the existing campaign. That’s not how it works. So they’d be starting with $0 and having to fill campaign coffers with NEW money, from day 1 while waiting for the painstaking documentation process for the Biden campaign to be able to transfer so much as a single penny to another campaign.
How do you propose a new candidate fund their flights from city to city, hitting a minimum 2 — 3 cities per day, bouncing around the country, trying to just gain name recognition with NO money? How do they rent locations? How do they fund security? How do they fund the email, social media, and SMS campaigns to let locals know they’re in the area?
How do they pay for the Voter File software that lets them identify who their likely supporters are, and how to contact them?
The logistics involved in a national campaign are outrageously massive. It’s hard to even begin to comprehend if you haven’t been involved in one.
And that’s ignoring the fact that we are up against an organized coalition that’s hell-bent on instilling a dictatorship by hook or by crook. They will challenge any new candidate’s right to be on the ballot in EVERY state. They will drag it into the courts, for months. AND then, if the candidate wins, they can go to the Supreme Court to invalidate the election results on the premise that the voters who voted for Biden in the primary were disenfranchised. THIS Supreme Court will 100% decide in their favor. They want this dictatorship as much as the rest of the wastrels in the GOP.
AT THIS POINT IN TIME, with THIS Supreme Court, the ONLY option that has a chance in hell of being successful is to take a page out of the GOP book, close ranks around our flawed candidate, and push him over the finish line.
Our job is to GET OUT THE VOTE as if our democracy depends on it, because it does.
(Edited spacing - again, not sure what is up with the lack of carriage returns, hopefully, the 4th attempt works)
