The Heritage Foundation, one of America's largest conservative groups, is already getting challenges ready in battleground states should Joe Biden agree to step aside. It views swing states Wisconsin, Georgia and Nevada as likely arenas for legal challenges, given the complexity of switching presidential candidates in those states.
If Biden steps down, they will litigate to keep him on the ballot in as many states as they believe they might succeed in, or even if success is unlikely. For that matter, given the current makeup of the SCOTUS, I don’t think we can afford to assume that the six supreme injustices will not put their thumbs on the scale for the Heritage Foundation if they are afforded any opportunity to do so.
I do not believe we can afford not to take enemy action such as this into account no matter what position we hold on the matter of Biden’s candidacy, because it’s for sure and certain that the Republicans will take any opportunity to weaken and divide us ahead of the election. They don’t want a contest that they might lose, they want to win by hook or by crook. And it’s clear they feel they can win by forcing us to keep the Biden-Harris ticket on the ballot in several close states if Biden steps down.
We must take this and other plans the Republicans are laying into account before deciding whether Biden should withdraw.
