Before everyone gets too upset, my photo there is from my retirement party. Not a spring chicken any more.
Sometimes you have to take the keys from grandpa.
I was psyched for Biden’s re-election, until the debate. What we saw in the debate is a man without enough left in the tank to run the government and campaign at the same time. We can’t attack Trump for his many demented moments on the campaign trail when our own candidate loses his thoughts on a regular basis. In his apology tour, Biden says he shouldn’t be scheduling events after 8:00 pm any more. That's nice. The campaign can control his rallies but I’m not sure all the world crises will remember to happen during Biden’s sharp daylight hours.
This isn’t a reflection on the achievements of his Administration, which have been excellent, even with the absurd MAGAfication of the Supreme Court. It isn’t a reflection on Biden, the human being. It’s a reflection on the inexorable march of Father Time.
When Biden says only he can defeat Trump, it’s an echo of Trump saying only he can fix it. It’s a narcissistic and inaccurate approach to government. This election needs a cadre of dedicated, vigorous volunteers. They aren’t feeling much inspiration. Seriously, is anyone inspired by Biden the person? —or is it by Biden the President, the work of a team that can function, maybe even better, under (say) Kamala Harris?
