All Are Welcome!
This is a weekly blog with a fun vibe that often veers off gardening, so stop on by and join the conversation. We adore new people! We are here every Saturday at 8AM Central with new content and chit chat continuing throughout the week. We have a core crew that checks in each day, all comments are read. Which makes us the best diary series on DK.
~As a reminder, this is a flame-free space. Let the wars rage outside our sanctuary~
A Hundred Skeeter Bites
Dying Cherry Tree
Debilitating Sunburn
Digging out the Weeds
Breathing in the Bug Spray
Damage to my Maters
Flood Water Liquifying my Dahlias
Squash Vine Borers
All the baby bunnies
eating all my yummies
Potential West Nile Virus
And Phytophotodermatitis.
All that said, summer is my favorite season and it’s rare you’ll see me whining about it. When it is below zero and the car is plugged in to keep it running, I weep for these days. I just stare at the bright cheery dresses and summer shoes in my closet, peeking from behind the darker flannels and heavy winter fabrics. Yet I am currently nursing too many mosquito bites to be anything but annoyed. I applied the Picaridin, swallowed a garlic clove, and made sure there has been no standing water around since the flood (almost two weeks ago). But there is standing water in other people’s yards and the city hasn’t sprayed our zone in over a week.
I am bit through my clothing. Little shitskys are relentless.
Current Garden Photos
My week otherwise has been pretty good. I finished watching Interview with the Vampire and am starting a re-read of the chronicles. I have Part II of the third season of Bridgerton waiting for me. I made Nashville Hot Chicken last week and this week I have a few tasty meals planned. Pork Au Poivre, zucchini fritters, fried eggplant, Batata Harra, and a cold chicken, corn and feta salad. Most of these items I am making for the first time, I’ll share the recipes once I know they are actually good. Other happy news, looks like my little weather video clip will indeed be featured on the Discovery Channel.
Garden chores this week:
-pulling up the pea vines
-more weeding and chop-n-drop for mulching
-another application of fertilizer, higher on the Potassium (K)
-keep killing SVB eggs and begin injecting BT (bacillus thuringiensis) into the winter squash vines
-succession plant the next round of bush beans, kale and summer squash. Maybe cabbage too
-garlic harvest is starting! Pretty excited about that
-tie up and add supports to dahlias
