After the July 5 2024 ABC interview with President Biden, Americans are left wondering, when will George Stephanophoulos step down or resign? His journalist abilities are obviously vastly diminished and his decline was on full display for all to see. It was kind of sad. When will GS step aside and let a competent journalist take his seat, or at least somebody who can grasp when his question has been answered? His performance was weak, poorly delivered, an embarrassment and frighteningly out of touch. Biden answered his questions, brought up other topics that people care about and kept trying to help guide GS get back on track, but the little guy just couldn’t seem to think straight and was caught in a one-question loop.
Does Stephanophoulos realize how severely his incompetence and diminished mental capacity are hurting America? Was he even aware or will he ever realize that he kept asking the same question all night or did he think those were different questions? Stephanophoulos seemed to have no ability to register that Biden had answered his questions. He was frozen up and couldn’t respond to anything Biden said about his record, the economy, his plans for the future, the importance of preserving democracy, etc. He couldn’t frame a follow up question and kept going back to his same old, tired talking point and repeating the same question.
It was sad to see how badly Stephanopholous has diminished in his capacity as an interviewer. Sure, he did some good interviews in the past, but, as he said during the interview, “the past is no indicator of the future.” So let’s talk about the future. How soon will Stephanopholous step down? It’s not just about his poor performance on this one interview, although it was awful. It’s not about one night – it’s about Stephanopholous’ long term and accelerating slide away from journalism into pushing his own narrative.
Loss of cognitive ability, perspective and reason
The interviewer showed a loss of cognitive ability, reason or even a good grasp on reality. George, it’s time to admit you’re a failure and that your poor performance weakened mental capacity, along with that of the entire corporate news media, is seriously hurting the chances of America escaping evisceration by Putin, the Koch brothers, Netanyahu, Musk and Fox media? Does George even know that Biden’s opponent in the election is a convicted fraudster and sexual predator who is in serious decline with apparent senility, mental illness, physical ill health and possibly the effect of long-term syphilitic infections?
Stephanophoulos seemed like he was lost in his own bubble, obsessed with trying to be the guy who could bring Biden down rather than conducting a legitimate interview. He wanted his scoop and was fixated to the detriment of the interview and the political debate. Just a weak little man foundering on stage against a statesman who repeatedly tried to explain to him something most of the viewers got in the first two minutes of the interview. Biden still intends to run and beat Trump. George just couldn’t process that. No matter how many times or how clearly Biden answered him, George had this perplexed look on his face and repeated himself.
What if GS the guy who hands the election to Putin?
Okay, let’s turn to a different topic. Given how poorly he is doing in the ratings, when will George retire, what will it take for him to step aside and hand his job over to somebody else? Doesn’t George realize that his day is over? Biden may rank as our seventh greatest president, but Stephanopholous is obviously a washed up political hack who needs to explain to the American people about his lack of preparation for the interview and his inability to process information.
Now, let’s talk about something else. Please quit your job, George. Hand it off to somebody, anybody who knows how to ask questions, allow the interviewee to respond and have a coherent follow up question. How badly do you have to do before you recognize that you’ve been around too long, you’ve lost your touch, you are vastly diminished and you can’t process answers when you hear them? It’s not just about one bad night, it’s about your lack of integrity and inability to do the job. How is Stephanophoulos going to feel a year from now, if Trump wins, and people say he handed the election to Putin’s puppet by doing a hatchet job on Biden on July 5? “I did my best?” Your best isn't good enough, George, it’s time to step aside.
What’s sad is that, although Biden actually did a good job answering GS’s questions, ABC’s corporate narrative was to smear the President and ignore the corruption of his opponent.
A note to the reader: If you didn’t see the debate you might think I was babbling, but if you heard the debate you know Stephanopholous was babbling all night and appeared unable to understand the answers to his question, which was primarily only one question repeated over and over again, ad nauseam, then he handed it over to a group of other pundits who didn’t even have the guts to confront him with his failure, they just created a tight little bubble around him to pump him up and amplify his narrative.
