I frequently write about my emotional support animal Pixie. She keeps me sane when she isn't driving me up the wall. Today is her 20th birthday. Mom would be 98 today.
Pixie added 6 years to my Mom's life. Mom doted on her. She would get deli turkey and beef for her. She let her up on the kitchen cabinets. She let her sleep with her. Pixie in turn would climb on her lap and refuse to move preventing Mom from mopping a clean kitchen floor again.
When Mom passed away in her sleep Pixie stayed with the body for 12 hours until my brother came home and found her.
Pixie keeps me from being lonely. After Reid's death she became my only companion. We have frequent conversations since she is very vocal. Currently I am trying to explain to her that I have no control over the weather and can't stop the thunderstorms coming in.
When you are elderly and living by yourself a pet becomes a lifesaver.
So happy birthday to my best friend. It is amazing how 12 pounds of black fur can brighten up your life.
