Please take a quick minute to set aside your preconceived notions about whether or not Biden should quit the ticket. In every race there are undecided voters and I spoke with many of them in 2016 and 2008 working as a volunteer on behalf of both the Clinton and Obama Presidential campaigns. Here are two actual quotes from voters that I personally spoke to. Keep in mind these are people were registered voters being targeted by those campaigns as people they might need to persuade:
“I’m ready for a change. I think I’ll vote for the black guy.” (Actual voter in Manassas, VA)
“I haven’t decided yet. I like to make up my mind on Election Day while waiting in line to vote.” (Actual voter in Arlington, VA)
These people are idiots. They base their decisions on general “feelings” and whatever pops into their head on election day. For them, it will never matter what the NYT prints or doesn’t print about a certain candidate. They certainly don’t think like you and I do. They can only be persuaded by incredibly simple messaging — if they can be persuaded at all. Many of them voted for Obama and then turned around and voted for Trump. We’re not talking about a handful of these people — the actual number is “certainly in the millions.”
Make whatever arguments you want about Biden or someone else but you should be clear-headed about just how dumb these voters are. They are not going to be persuaded by logic. It doesn’t matter that Trump lost and tried to overthrow the government. They don’t care that Trump lies — they assume everyone does. None of this is going to disqualify Trump for a huge number of these actual undecided voters.
Biden and Trump both have a huge problem with voters who feel they know them well enough and do not like either one of them. Nobody knows for sure how they will ultimately vote (or not vote) but their reason for doing so will most likely have nothing to do with how people on this website think.
