I truly hope we're getting it together and bouncing back after the week and a half of infighting that I saw here.
Anyways, I posted a pretty hefty rant on Saturday night in response to all the doom and gloom, so I figured I should follow up with a more constructive summary of why I support the Democratic Party’s nominee.
I’m going to stand strong and fight because everything I am grateful for is on the line this November.
I’m making a stand for Mrs. Fleek Dogg and the right for her adult children (and grandchildren) to immigrate here once they go through the legal process. I’m fighting for a habitable climate for her extended family back in the Philippines and for our farm dogs Fleeky and Sweetie. We're ultimately standing up for our right to retire back in the Philippines without having to worry about Category 6 typhoons/hurricanes there. Hell, I’m fighting to be able to retire in the first place because I’m damn aware that the fascists and oligarchs would love to steal what we’ve paid into social security while repeatedly crashing the markets with the inevitable economic turmoil.
Children should be able to play outside in the summer and not hiding from 110-Degree heat indexes inside air-conditioned spaces like we've been here in Baltimore this past month. I’m thus fighting for a habitable climate here for my grandchildren who eventually immigrate, for the extensive flower and vegetable garden we've been building at our new home, and our cat Chester.
I also dream of a habitable Maryland climate for our friends’ children and my students and all their friends at my Title I school. There will be hell to pay if the free breakfasts get taken away, which would make it hard for many kids to pay attention in class. It's sure hard to focus and learn when you're hungry because your family can't afford the inflated, gouged price of groceries!
I’m making a stand for the rights of my students with disabilities to receive a free and appropriate education, with no worries about federal funds being redirected to religious fundamentalists, tax cuts for billionaires, and other Cult 45 cronies who would love to pocket a share of those Title I and Special Education funds.
Speaking of, that Meteor Blades diary and commentator 1BQ inspired me to write a Diary about potential impacts of Project 2025 on Special Education later this week (thanks to both 😊). Last week actually inspired me to plan out a bunch of diaries. Thank goodness I'm not teaching summer school, but I do have to get out in to the real world for activism. I'm also back to work tomorrow helping my school with documentation for summer IEP meeting. Therefore need to cut this short, but I'm grateful for picking myself back up again after a reflective Fourth of July break!
So, yeah, I was triggered by that debate, all the SCOTUS power grabbing, and the media’s overreaction too, but to beat Project 2025 and banish Trump once and for all we have to stand together strong for the next four months. The good news is that, based on the Kos headlines and diaries today, our community appears to be moving on and turning the page. I'll leave you with some "Comeback Kid" mixed with scenes from "Karate Kid" for inspiration:
