As I read this morning’s New York Times I find more articles that say Biden should step down, suggesting more possible replacements. The NYT as a group have their editorial heads stuck in the Trump’s world: Trump vs. Biden for king of the country. Biden isn’t running for king, though, but for president. A president presides: he is the leader of a group of talented people who are leaders themselves. Biden’s three and a half years show that he is very good at bringing a team together and leading them to success. Trump, on the other hand, didn’t even grasp the concept of teamwork and leadership. In his presidency he took ages to fill his appointed offices because he never even thought of a team effort. He imagined himself king ruling alone by his own whims.
Biden is not only ready to lead and capable but he has already forged the pathways to do it. Any other candidate — so many talented Democrats, it’s true — would have to start very late in the cycle to develop their platform and campaign plan, to build an appointee slate and choose a vice president. Biden has the advantage of incumbency. His team is already in place and working together. Kamala Harris stands at his side, knowing the plans and ready to pick up the ball if Biden should tire.
Leave all of the great Democratic presidential talent that’s outside the White House where they are with four more years to develop their plans for 2028. Let Biden preside for a second term. He can do it. He’s doing it.
