The political axiom is, “Democrats need to fall in love, while republicans fall in line.”
The GOP presumptive-nominee has a list of reasons that would make him an immediate, “No!”, for most any legitimate job in America - with Convicted Felon Awaiting Sentencing being the most obvious - underscoring the political axiom for at least one political party.
Republicans have fallen in line behind a corrupt tyrant.
[You can add your own adjectives].
Debating their hypocrisy is an exercise in futility since it would be attempting to make sense of crazy. I’m still guessing rich white-male as their VP pick….who embraces Project 2025. Quelle surprise s/.
I could first vote for president since Mondale. This may be the first year I have ever seen Democrats falling in line, while also being in love with our candidate. [Obama-the-Centrist was not loved by many here]
I’ve debated within my own politically-astute family, that has shown tendencies to ‘throw away’ their vote in protest (because they couldn’t fall in love), “You get nothing when you don’t have the gavel.” The current Supreme Court underscores the result of protest voting.
Pie fights happen. They can be the sign of a healthy democratic process. The political party that is more educated (us), enjoys debating to, “Get to Yes.” We attempt to at least. Unfortunately, some wounds take longer to heal than others. Some things are more difficult to learn than others. Some candidates are easier love than others too.
Who doesn’t love Joe….he effectively came out of retirement shortly after a personal tragedy, put on his rusting armor (to borrow a metaphor), and wounded the Orange Dragon. Whether you agree with all of his policies or not has become somewhat irrelevant for many people since Joe won.
Joe gave history a chance to finish the job of defeating tyranny, because we all know that the Beast is still alive and dangerous. It’s reasonable to ask if Joe is up to putting on his armor once again. Is Joe again up to being the person to stand toe-to-toe with a monster.
The recently televised Debate mattered, maybe not to those who love Joe and will always vote for him, but to those who have to decide whether to stand in line to vote and/or for which candidate.
There are those of us who love Joe because he’s simply lovable. Some of us only now love Joe because he slayed the Orange Dragon.
“He’s our Champion. He did it before, so he can do it again!”
“We are standing in line behind you, Joe, because we love you. And we love you because we know that you can do the right thing.”
Do the right thing, Joe.
I do not know what the right thing is for Joe. But I trust Joe.
I don’t know Joe any better than you do. I just hope and pray that our Champion can once again do the right thing. Said a bit differently, I hope both God & Obama are whispering into Joe’s ears before he decides to accept the nomination.
Despite the hand-wringing and pearl-clutching, there is plenty of time for the Primary-to-Convention process to be completed. There are weeks before the DNC in Chicago. It’s the Biden/Harris ticket that will be put forth for nomination at the DNC.
We’re in line behind you, Joe. We love you too. Do the right thing.
I’m not sure why some people here are seemingly unwilling to accept that the right thing might be for Joe to feel comfortable finishing his term while also passing the campaign torch to Kamala. Those of us who simply love Joe should accept that whatever Joe decides is the right thing if Joe says it is. A smooth transition of power to a young’ish generation (within the Democratic Party at least) would look good too.
And plenty of folks who are simply in line behind Joe should be able to see Kamala is certainly better than most, and, more importantly, she is uniquely qualified to fit into Joes armor to slay the tyrannical beast. If you don’t accept Kamala Harris as being qualified to be President of the United States, then you are not likely to be in love with Joe and/or willing to sacrifice some principle to stand in line to stop tyranny - proving that political axiom.
Like I mentioned from the outset - we all seem to be both in love with Joe and/or just willing to stand behind him no matter what right now. That should include an outcome that has someone other than Joe putting on the political armor to prosecute the ideas of tyranny. Personally, I’m not sure Joe is up to the task, but a former prosecutor should be able to do the job.
The silent-majority came out to vote against tyranny in both England & France. Kos has a Diary up from yesterday suggesting these outcomes portend results in America. I argue that Christian Nationalism makes America a bit different.
My money is on Kamala Harris being asked to rise to the occasion if Joe decides to pass the torch. And since it’s my Diary, Governor Cooper from North Carolina, considered to be ‘friends’ with Kamala already, expands the electoral map for Team Blue as VP.
I’ll wait for Joe to do the right thing and cast my vote for Team Blue no matter what.
Joe has plenty of time between now and the Convention. And no matter what Joe decides, I’m guessing that y’all will still both love him and fall in line to vote for Team Blue too.
I’ll vote for Joe if he asks me, and I’ll vote for someone else if Joe asks me. But you and I aren’t the problem.
Turnout matters.
I’ll leave it to Team Joe to determine how to do the right thing.
I’ll be standing in line to vote and I hope to see you there - no matter what Joe decides is the right thing to do.
