"Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven."
John Milton, Paradise Lost
Why Republicans doesn't want properity in the United States.
It serves them to keep the larger mass of people poor, and to destroy public education. The real agenda began with Reagan as he broke the unions and began deregulation. Each step has bought us closer to their goals.
An endless circle:
War, ignorance, poverty, and fear leads people to religion as they feel helpless in their lives. The neopuritanism of the religicos working for the right wing blame poor for their own misery tapping in to guilt, even while those at the top party on. Jobs go overseas. College costs skyrocket as lowered federal taxes push more costs to the states. The war in Iraq lessons availability of fuel increasing prices. The working class in their desperation for jobs lets them gut the environmental, pulling down mountains and burying streams while digging for coal. More deregulation and more profits for those at the top.
Paradise Lost: The First Book
John Milton
Said then the lost Archangel, "this the seat
That we must change for Heaven?--this mournful gloom
For that celestial light? Be it so, since He
Who now is sovran can dispose and bid
What shall be right: fardest from Him is best,
Whom reason hath equalled, force hath made supreme
Above his equals. Farewell, happy fields,
Where joy forever dwells! Hail, horrors! hail,
Infernal World! and thou, profoundest Hell,
Receive thy new possessor--one who brings
A mind not to be changed by place or time.
The mind is its own place, and in itself
Can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.
What matter where, if I be still the same,
And what I should be, all but less than he
Whom thunder hath made greater? Here at least
We shall be free; the Almighty hath not built
Here for his envy, will not drive us hence:
Here we may reign secure; and, in my choice,
To reign is worth ambition, though in Hell:
Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven.
