Did anyone watch SNL last night? It was the first show since the writer's strike and Tina Fey was guest hosting, so I decided to tune in even though I no longer watch it regularly anymore.
It was interesting to say the least. Not because the writers found their comedic mojo again (they didn't) but because it seems the Cool Kids have spoken about who is in and who is out.
Here's a quick synopsis:
SNL "hearts" Hillary.
Tina Fey really, really "hearts" Hillary.
Tina Fey wants Ohio and Texas to vote for Hillary because she's like a nun you hate but makes you know the capitol of Vermont. Plus, it's okay that Hillary and Bill run the country together as co-preznits because it's kinda like Starsky and Hutch. (I kid you not.)
B**ch is the new black. (Who knew?)
Obama is not cool. ObamacultObamacultObamacult. Rinse and repeat.
Obama is their new Gore.
The beginning SNL skit was a riff on "anyonewhosupportsObama ispartofacult" Especially, it seems the press.
It featured a 'debate' between "Hillary" and "Obama" with various members of the press enthralled with Obama to the point of orgasmic heights asking him no hard questions but gazing at him with open adoration. Hillary was neglected in the 'debate' because the press was too busy adoring Obama.
Okay.
Fast forward to the Nightly News skit where Tina Fey came out and took advantage of her guest hosting spot on national television to endorse Hillary, instruct the viewers to vote for Hillary in Ohio and Texas, and demonstrate that the cult of Hillary is alive and well. You don't have to support Obama to drink the Kool-Aid.
Since I can't find the transcript here are some of what Tina said compliments of My DD (who are very happy campers this morning.
some women considered themselves such feminists that their gender would not dictate who they chose as President.
These women will vote for whoever Oprah tells them to."
Below is one of my Tina favs because who can argue with such clear logic?
"people have a problem with the co-president idea, why, because having two intelligent people solving our nations problems together would be a BAD thing?
Its like telling Starsky not to talk to Hutch!"....
Tina Fey:I want to say something about those calling Hillary a bitch...
Yeah, well she is...
So am I, so is she (pointing at Weekend Update news host Amy Poehler)
Deal with it
Bitches get stuff DONE! (Amy says yeah and starts nodding her head, together they get in a rhythm, with Amy saying in response, more yeahs, uh huhs and a you go girl)
Like back in grammar school,
they could have had priests teaching you but, no,
they had tough old nuns who slept on cots
and who could hit ya and you HATED those bitches
But at the end of the school year
you sure KNEW the capital of Vermont!
So COME ON Texas and Ohio
Get on board, it's not too late!...
BITCH IS THE NEW BLACK!
Wow.
Tina Fey can endorse any candidate she wishes but I object to her using a guest spot on a national television show as a means of announcing who she's pulling for in the general. Write an OpEd piece, post on Huffington or MY DD or Taylor Marsh or here but don't use a non-political show for campaigning.
Don't denigrate those who support another candidate.
SNL can skewer any person they want but it's overkill to the extreme to start the show by skewering a particular candidate and then end the show with a ringing endorsement for another candidate complete with instructions on voting for that candidate in upcoming primaries.
Of note: I see there is another SNL diary up right now but this diary is differentiated from the other because my point of view is not to pat SNL and Tina Fey on the back for its bias but to protest the hijacking of SNL for political campaigning in the midst of the primary season.
