I have finally recovered my sense of humor during this campaign. Saturday Night Live has won me back.
Credit where credit is due, I laughed so hard at the SNL appearance of Governor Sarah Palin I watched it twice and then googled the lyrics for your enjoyment.
I am not sure if it was Alec Baldwin's remark, "You're way hotter in person", or if it was the very pregnant Amy Poehler's rap http://www.nbc.com/...
For those of you who couldn't understand a word:
SNL - Amy Poehler’s Sarah Palin Rap Lyrics

For all those bullied children out there, this is how to deal with ridicule. You become part of the show and then we think,
Gosh, she's still a pathological liar (found guilty of Abuse of Power as Governor), a neoconservative (who shoots wolves from airplanes) doesn't believe a girl impregnated by a rapist (or her grandfather) should have the right to an abortion, is married to a snow-boarding, one-time secessionist follower (the movement that HATES America, not just African Americans and Immigrants) but she's a good sport.
Then again she knows how to play rough with boys (just ask her ex-brother-in-law), so that shouldn't be a surprise. If you have ever watched a professional hockey game you can bet Governor Palin could hold her own. Maybe this is where I should add just one teeny, weeny aside, as I am as interested in seeing her develop her skills as anybody else who cares about this country. If she read newspapers or even a magazine or two, she would know the rather impressive answer to her question, "Who is Barack Obama ?"
And then we have the latest Obama-Bop to the McCain Campaign. (They must really hate how authentically and brilliantly he campaigns.) General Michael B. Mukasey and Special Prosecutor Nora R. Dannehy (investigating whether the firings of the U.S. Attorneys were politically motivated) have been notified by Bob Bauer, general counsel for the Obama campaign, that Senator Obama is requesting the FBI investigations of ACORN be included in US Attorney investigations to determine if they were also politically motivated.
Now this may not mean much to some of you, but like Sarah Palin's abuse of power as Governor (known as "Trooper-gate"), if the FBI's investigation of this political action group is determined to be in the same category? That is against the law. Yes, it is illegal and heads and tails should roll. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/...
Of course, fair is fair. Although it is Sunday morning, the response of the McCain/Palin campaign was quick:
"Today’s outrageous letter to Attorney General Mukasey and Special Prosecutor Dannehy at the Justice Department asking for a special prosecutor to investigate Senator McCain and Governor Palin’s public statements about ACORN’s record of fraudulent voter registrations (including in this week’s Presidential debate) is absurd," Mr. Porritt said in a statement. "It is a typical time-worn Washington attempt to criminalize political differences."
See what I mean about regaining one's sense of humor? I thought the above paragraph was patently hilarious, even the third time I read it.
Now those of you who know me may remember I am a numbers cruncher by vocation, hence my mouth is still hanging open over Obama's September numbers for campaign contributions. Six hundred and thirty-two thousand (632,000) new donors arrived on the scene, and along with recurrent contributors, raised an unprecedented one hundred and fifty million dollars ($150,000,000) last month. That is a helluva lot of zeros, my friends, and to draw in that many new people at the end of this campaign is not only astonishing but historic.
I struggled to imagine how this kind of dough flies out of the pockets of a badly, cash-strapped, American public in the midst of the worst financial crisis experienced in our lifetimes. We have clients whose entire lives are turning upside down and others who have lost nearly everything, so I turned to my husband for answers. He responded:
"A good portion of that money had to be donated by [pragmatic] Republicans [as in not neoconservative] who are scared sh*tl*ss by the prospect of a Sarah Palin presidency down the road."
Those pragmatic republicans and I have more in common than I ever imagined. After all the monied people in this society have just learned a very hard lesson. Economic pain can trickle upward. When you squeeze the majority of the people to the breaking point economically, you end up with some sort of rebellion if not a downright revolution.
But the coup de grâce was Colin Powell's announcement during Meet the Press this morning. Although he is long-time friends with Senator McCain and thinks he would do a good job, he believes we are in need of a generational phenomenon, Barack Obama. Okay, so he didn't say it exactly that way, he said it better.
A clip is included in the linked article below. Listen to the embedded video of Colin Powell on Meet the Press as he gives his reasoning for endorsing Senator Obama. Then ask yourself whether or not we can be as respectful as he is when we evaulate the real differences between the two candidates. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/... Yes, Powell made a very big mistake, for which he has been extremely remorseful. One day he may tell us the truth about how they managed to use him to start the Iraq War, but for now I will let that go. He has partially redeemed himself by endorsing Obama to help those lingering few who worry about Obama's ability to lead this country.
It's been a great day so far. Peace.
