Pt. Cabrillo Light Station, between Mendocino and Fort Bragg in California
is one of the California State Parks slated for closure.
In Today's Exciting Edition, significant changes to search:
- Your Back button should now take you Back to your results.
- You can copy and paste a Search URL and expect it to work for someone else.
- There should be no loss of functionality - that is, you should still be able to page through results, sort, and the like. All the fields should work as well as they did before.
The fresnel lens rotates every 8 seconds.
Ah, those two things sound so simple, but in the exciting world of javascript and search and all that is holy, it took rather a lot of work, and testing. In particular, it's possible that there are some browser-specific bugs that we missed.
Some issues remain with date edges for sure, and there are some other oddities here and there that we're ironing out. I note with annoyance that it's not possible to remove the date from some searches, and I've added that back to the list, but in the meantime, there's an easy workaround: type 1/1/01 into the box for start date and you're good to go.
Now would be a good time to remind us of any of the other search issues that remain that have been bugging you.
Harbor Seals at Point Cabrillo
This picture was taken about 50 feet from the front door of the lighthouse.
Some Other Stuff™
In addition to the search changes, there are some tiny cache changes that will ease some issues for the front page feature box.
Photographs from Point Cabrillo Light Station near Mendocino. It's a lovely place to visit (while it's still open) and the keeper's quarters can be rented for overnight stays. There are trails along the bluffs and a few accessible coves. Seals are frequently seen sunning themselves on the rock below the lighthouse. Nearby Caspar Cove is one of my favorite kite-flying locations on this section of the coast.
