I'm off to California tomorrow at 6:10 a.m. EDT. Who the hell leaves anywhere at that hour? Ok, so, I still have to do some cleaning because a cleanfreak is coming here to to take care of Roger the Cat but in the midst of all of this chaos I thought of ct and the history of my being here on DKos with quiet ct in the background making things work.
I admit I was a total naif when I arrived here. I read and read and was terrified to comment. Then I wrote a comment then I wrote a diary. I'm not going back to see what it was -- it might have been horrible.
What I do remember is the California fire diaries which started with a comment/diary by Barbara about horses. Next thing I knew, there was a Group W Bench of folks who carried her torch (sorry). I was on dial up. We didn't have Google whatever. We cut and pasted a shiteton of info to help people who actually were in a red area of CA.
I know personally 2 families we saved. I met them. They said they found their way out of an inferno via the links to DKos
The reason I, on dial up, and others who were more sophisticated were able to make that amazing series happen was because of ct and his cohorts. We were begging for recs and Remembering Jello even trolled a kos diary for recs. It is perhaps the best time I remember on this site.
No pie wars over fires. No trolls wanting people to pay for their ill gotten gains. No outages on the tech side.
I have to pack for CA and finish cleaning so I can't search to find when those diaries existed. All I know is -- there were folks who fought hard and found exit routes and didn't have the same ideologies on stuff. Just good people. Wanting everyone in danger to survive.
Thanks, ct and everyone else in IT for keeping this site alive during the dial up times and now. Ok, I have Frontier so I might as well be dial up.
Thank you. Thank you to all sorts of folks here.
Also, too, if you live in my neighborhood and work for $1.14 an hour and are an excellent cleaner -- call me!!!!
