The entire growing list: From Slate Magazine
How many times has Donald Trump disqualified himself from holding the most powerful job in the world? You be the judge.
It has been 13 months since Donald Trump announced his presidential bid and, in the same speech,
called Mexican immigrants rapists.
The ensuing drip feed of Trumpian absurdities and offenses has had a desensitizing effect. We know that Trump is a
racist, a
misogynist, an
authoritarian, and a
narcissist, but we’ve lost track of the many, many specific things he has said and done that disqualify him from the office he seeks.
So we have compiled a list of specific things that make Trump an unacceptable candidate for the presidency. Some are policy proposals that should be outside the bounds of debate, like
punitive torture. Some are casual vulgarities, like his
description of Rosie O’Donnell. You might not agree that each individual item on the list is disqualifying in isolation—you can vote those down, and vote up the ones you find especially egregious—but the list’s cumulative weight makes its own statement.
Medicine: Alzheimer’s drug shows promise.
An experimental drug swept sticky plaques from the brains of a small number of people with Alzheimer’s disease over the course of a year. And preliminary results hint that this cleanup may have staved off mental decline.
News about the new drug, an antibody called aducanumab, led to excitement as it trickled out of recent scientific meetings. A paper published online August 31 in Nature offers a more comprehensive look at the drug’s effects.
“Overall, this is the best news that we’ve had in my 25 years doing Alzheimer’s clinical research,” study coauthor Stephen Salloway of Brown University said August 30 at a news briefing. “It brings new hope for patients and families most affected by the disease.” CONTINUED
“For decades now, the Farrah Fawcett-esque pageant girl turned model or actress or singer-songwriter or somesuch, was punchline fodder for reporters, late-night talk show hosts, even her own husband. It was plain to see why: a busty, blond, New Age woman, ===== was a caricature of the gold-digging mistress, an easy cliché …. Despite her cartoonish depiction in the press, (she) seemed to be a woman of delightful contradictions: a devout Southern Baptist, but also a hippie; a Georgia peach with aspirations of New York high society; an earnest and ambitious, if not extraordinarily talented, performer willing to drop everything and be the kind of traditional wife….” who is she? Labor Days Past thanks to Vox:
Emphasis added:
But the best thing about the first few Labor Days may have been the parades.
Because they came before the widespread use of cameras, we're left to guess at just what those glorious first parades looked like. But we know from contemporary news reports that as the crowds swelled to an estimated 10,000 people, the floats became mind-blowingly bizarre. According to the New York Sun, by 1884, various union demonstrators in New York City had the following demonstrations scheduled:
- The typographical union planned to run a live printing press, once belonging to Ben Franklin, as they paraded down the street.
- Cigar makers were set to run two wagons, on which they'd make cigars during the parade, distributing them to parade-goers as they went.
- The best float, however, might have been one that never happened. Butchers in the city had prepared two abattoirs (slaughterhouses) on wheels, and they promised to butcher live animals during the parade. Yes, this would have been a parade with live cow slaughtering. Unfortunately, lawmakers said the demonstration was illegal, out of respect for "civilization[,] without which men are savages."
There were also massive numbers of beer kegs, "mounted in every conceivable place.”
The man who is on the brink of becoming the Republican nominee for the White House, suggested racially dividing contestants back in 2005.
Trump floated the idea of segregated Apprentice teams during his syndicated radio show on July 11, 2005.
He told listeners he 'wasn't particularly happy' with the show's previous season and was considering 'an idea that is fairly controversial - creating a team of successful African-Americans versus a team of successful whites'.
Trump added: 'Whether people like that idea or not, it is somewhat reflective of our very vicious world.'
The idea, which he also mentioned on Howard Stern's show a couple months earlier - drew an avalanche of largely negative coverage and was quietly shelved.

So much for being best buddies with Snoop Dog:
WASHINGTON (CBSDC)– Rapper Snoop Dogg is giving his two cents on the 2016 presidential election and his favorite is clear: Hillary Clinton.
Snoop Dogg appeared on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” on Sunday and spoke out supporting the former secretary of state and democratic candidate.
“I would love to see a woman in office because I feel like we’re at that stage in life to where we need a perspective other than the male’s train of thought,” the entertainer in response to a viewer’s question. “And just to have a woman speaking from a global perspective as far as representing America, I’d love to see that. So I’ll be voting Ms. Clinton.”
Snoop Dogg is among several celebrities who have shown support for the candidate since her announcement in April.
