Right-wing columnist Jennifer Rubin at the Washington Post has been on a roll lately. Her latest column about how Drumpf has yet again embarrassed the U.S. via his ill-informed, opportunistic tweets following the London terrorist attacks is something to behold. In it, she lambasts Trump and the hypocrisy of those who support him. She writes, in part:
"Sure, Trump’s policies and rhetoric are incoherent and based on a tower of lies. Far worse, however, is his appalling character, which accelerates the erosion of democratic norms and social cohesion a diverse democracy requires. In instances like this, those who would lecture us on President Obama’s under-appreciation of America’s unique place in human history or proclaim that they simply had to vote for Trump because Hillary Clinton was some sort of monster are exposed as fools or hypocrites or both."
Of course, Rubin spent years propping up the GOP and the toxic stew that it's become. I'm glad to see her recent columns are sanely calling out the insanity of her party, but, honestly Jennifer, it's too little, too late. The clock isn't ticking anymore. We’re stuck in a dystopian present, but it's nice to know that sometimes, even though the clock is broken, it's still right twice a day. And at some point, it will start working again (unless the orange anus runs down the Doomsday Clock).
