Serial sexual predator and former actor/comedian Bill Cosby was finally found guilty in criminal court for three counts of aggravated indecent assault for his assault of Andrea Constand. We haven't heard much from Cosby himself, except for a small outburst in court after the guilty verdict and prosecution wanted to send him straight to jail.
Camille Cosby released a statement this morning in defense of her predator husband, which came across as rambling, confusing and just completely out of touch with reality. Camille gives us a cursory history lesson to remind us that only white men could be citizens when the Constitution was drafted but then jumps to Bill Cosby.
Now enters an American citizen, Bill Cosby. The overall media, with their frenzied, relentless demonization of him and unquestioning acceptance of accusers’ allegations without any attendant proof, have superseded the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, which guarantee due process and equal protection, and thereby eliminated the possibility of a fair trial and unbiased jury. Bill Cosby was labelled as guilty because the media and accusers said so... period.
That is just completely untrue. The media has not been accepting. And Cosby got his due process. In fact, he got due process TWICE here. As a juror for the retrial clearly said, it was Bill Cosby’s own words about his own actions that got him convicted … period.
Yet, Camille Cosby makes it clear that she won’t let reality get in the way of her belief that her wealthy husband who’s been able to reach old age despite decades of violating numerous women. She creates a really weak argument to suggest that her husband’s victims, including Andrea Constand, are liars. She brings up Emmett Till and Darryl Hunt, as if the stories of these innocent men are related to Cosby’s guilty past.
She tries to argue that there’s a conspiracy within the district attorney’s office against Bill Cosby (which is weird—if you want to take down the most powerful man in America, why wait until he is mostly irrelevant? but I digress ...) to frame him as a victim.
The worst injustices, however, have been carried out in the Pennsylvania Montgomery County Courthouse. Three criminal charges, promised during an unethical campaign for the district attorney’s office, were filed against my husband...all based on what I believe to be a falsified account by the newly elected district attorney’s key witness.
She tries to make it seem like the DA’s office has sided with the victims because they all are after Bill Cosby’s money (I bet that’s what he tells her every night). Camille asks for the DA’s office to be investigated, saying this is about true democracy and justice (insert GIANT eye roll here).
If they can do this to Mr. Cosby, they can do so to anyone.
How much longer will we, the majority of the people, tolerate judicial, executive, legislative, media and corporate abuses of power? We, the majority of the people, must make America what it has declared itself to be....a democracy...not to be destroyed by vicious, lying, self-absorbed paradigms of evilness.
Does America struggle to fulfill the promise of a true democracy by failing to protect the most vulnerable? Yes. Is power systemically abused at the expense of innocent Americans every day? Yes. Is Bill Cosby an example of those things? Hell no. Camille Cosby thinks what happened to her husband is “mob justice,” but this is the furthest thing from mob justice. His case was tried in a court of law, which many argue is the best place to address sexual assault.
This shows that at the end of the day, the people who defend sexual predators will ignore all the signs and flat-out lie and misuse history references. Camille Cosby and her husband don’t think that justice wasn’t served because of unfair proceedings. It’s simply unfair because he’s being held accountable. It’s not about whether the assault happened; it’s about fighting to ensure that the assailant escapes culpability for their actions.
