School’s out till January! Loud cheers and great rejoicing!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

My chiropractor gave me the most fun Christmas present this year. She sang the song for me while she was working on me — I don’t remember when I last laughed that hard!
I found one to give her, too — I asked her for a perfectly ordinary song that could, just by tweaking the way it was sung (not changing the words, and not a love song to begin with), be used to seduce somebody. It has to immediately follow a very public performance of Where the Wild Things Are, so you have some idea of how family the family audience is.

Lyres found, one in England and one in Kazakhstan, provide evidence of thriving trade, and add some perplexities to where exactly the instrument was developed.
The Golden Gate Bridge will be getting some noise dampers.
Ethiopian monuments 1000 years older than previously thought. Interesting article — my first response to the headline was “well, duh”.
Fred Meyer and QFC workers are on strike apparently. I don’t shop at QFC, and I can avoid Fred Meyer till the strike is over.
Lead white paint is giving new information on where and when historically famous artists painted. A new test analyzing the lead isotopes in the particular paint has yielded some surprising results.
Some restaurant recommendations in PDX.
A nasty piece of American history and how it was covered by Ida B. Wells.

The offspring are in Los Angeles for a couple of weeks. I do hope my daughter’s ex has the brains to get his car a new battery. I want to be able to go where I want when I want for a while.
The Holiday Express is running again this year. The stretch of track they use for it runs along the Willamette a few blocks west of where I live. You have no idea how happy I am that it doesn’t run past early evening.
I’m testing the new CD drive that came for my new computer. The old one died a horrible death — apparently something I didn’t notice spilled on it. So far, I’ve listened to Christmas carols played on a glass armonica and several albums worth of Moody Blues. I’m thinking about digging out my Doctor Who DVDs and watching them.

Love you guys!
