I’ve been seeing a bird that I think might be the White-faced Ibis, early in the morning as I just enter my walking path, but haven’t been able to get a photo of what ever it actually is. This morning, again, just as I approached, as stealthily as I could, two of these birds took off and flew across my view from right to left. All I could make out for certain was a long, downward curved bill on them. Just have to keep trying.
The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns.
We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below.
Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the phenological patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. To have the Daily Bucket in your Activity Stream, visit Backyard Science’s profile page and click on Follow.
Then I spotted the Great Blue Heron, as in the title photo, flying ahead of me down the path in front of me. It landed, and I took the photo as it walked down into the bushes on the creek side. Ah ha! This time I’m ready to go for a flight sequence, as I know it will burst out and take off as I walk closer. Setting my camera on sequential shooting, I stalked forward. Yes, it obliged as hoped, but even though ready my shots still were somewhat blurred. My camera just has limitations, but the shots came out fair enough, so here ya go:
To my very pleasant surprise, there was a second GBH down there in the creek, hiding, that I wasn’t aware of. Gotcha!
Other big bird this morning, again, Sandhill Crane:
Little bird:
Western Wood Pewee
One Red-tailed Hawk out in the “hawk trees”, way way off:
We had a very cloudy day yesterday, and it must have rained just a smatter sometime during the night. No way otherwise would the steel bridge have been this wet:
Additional moisture from the rain would also account for the early morning fog.
I also saw two juvenile Green Heron fly quickly by, but no chance for a shot. Myriad blackbirds everywhere:
Heard and saw Kildeer on the wing; way too fast for any photos. Still, it’s great to get out in the Great Blue mornin’!
Now It's Your Turn.
