Hello. This is my first diary. After many years of lurking, I’m reaching out with a question that I imagine some of you talented DK folks can help me with. It’s about political donating.
I am willing and able to donate a small-but-significant-to-me bit of money each month to political causes. I get a ludicrous amount of email every month from various candidates from all kinds of states running for all kinds of offices and from various PACS. I would love to donate to most of the candidates, but I can only afford to help a few each month.
Today, I was just about to split $70 across 14 candidates in 3 states, but I couldn’t help but wonder if 14 donations of $5 apiece are an efficient way to give money.
Any suggestions on how I should choose which of the hundreds of worthy candidates and groups I should donate to when I have some money to give, and on what is a practical minimum amount to give someone?
My own first answer is to donate to efforts that help a lot of Democrats at once (voter registration, transportation, countering voter suppression) but I would also like to contribute to particular candidates, if I can just figure out how to pick ’em.
Thanks for any suggestions!
