Time to recap another exciting election night!
The biggest story isn't fully resolved: state Sen. John McGuire leads incumbent Rep. Bob Good in the Republican primary in VA-05 by a very small margin (50.3-49.7) and the race has not been called because early votes still need to be released in two counties, although McGuire has declared victory. This race (with a 427 vote spread) is just outside the range for a state-paid recount, but well within the range where Good could request one, so we may not know the official winner for a number of days. If the current votes hold, Good is only the second incumbent to lose a House primary this year (and the first to lose to an outsider: the other one, Jerry Carl, lost a post-redistricting member-vs.-member primary in Alabama).
In the runoff for the Republican primary in GA-03, former Trump aide Brian Jack is the winner and almost certainly the next Rep. in this dark-red district following the retirement of Drew Ferguson.
Despite some rumblings of a significant challenge from the right to long-time Republican establishmentarian Tom Cole in the OK-04 primary, Cole ran off with an easy victory over a split field.
In the Virginia Beach-based VA-02, Democrat Missy Cotter Smasal won the Democratic primary to take on Republican freshman Jen Kiggans. In the Richmond-area swing district VA-07 (where Democrat Abigail Spanberger is retiring to focus on a gubernatorial run), the Democratic nominee will be Eugene Vindman (best known for a supporting role in the first Trump impeachment), who will be opposed by Derrick Anderson, the establishment-preferred Republican.
Finally, in VA-10 (a light-blue district in the northern Virginia suburbs), state Sen. Suhas Subramanyam won over a jam-packed Democratic field to succeed retiring Rep. Jennifer Wexton. Subramanyam will face off against Republican Mike Clancy.
That wraps up our coverage tonight; thank you as always for following along with Daily Kos Elections!
