A Cottontail Rabbit wanders by in a wildlife preserve near my house in St Pete FL. Who doesn’t like a fluffy bunny rabbit?
"Wild Florida" is a diary series that explores the flora and fauna of the Sunshine State. Yes, we are a single-party wannabe-fascist state, but we have some amazing wildlife here.
The park near me, Sawgrass Lake Nature Preserve, has a thriving population of Marsh Rabbits which I see often, but there is also a group of Cottontails living here. (The Marsh Rabbits have darker fur and smaller ears.) I don’t see the Cottontails very often, but since they are habituated to the sight of humans clomping around all the time, they are pretty calm and tend to ignore us. This one gave me a close approach as I was sitting on a bench eating lunch. He alternated between grabbing a bite to eat and checking me out.
