Having watched the debate and also having been barraged with all the negativity that came afterwards, I would like to throw in my two cents of observation for what it’s worth.
1. Just over 50 million people watched it which is less than one third of the potential voting population come November. Most people are still not that engaged in the race.
2. With all the negativity on the democratic side about Biden’s performance, why has there hasn’t been an equivalent negative side to Trump’s performance. He did not speak one truthful sentence throughout the entire debate. I know that people expect him to lie through his teeth but the excessive belligerence he expressed was over the top even for him.
3. I am not a young man any more. I feel terribly offended about how people are attributing everything to Biden’s age and ignoring the fact that Trump is only 3 years younger and in much worse physical condition. I would bet anything that the probability of Trump having an stroke or heart attack before the election is much higher than Biden having a similar event. Further, given the content of Trump’s rantings I would say he is suffering or will be suffering from senile dementia way before Biden. These points haven’t been spoken of at all.
4. Last, as someone who is not as young as he once was I can tell you that berating Biden for being old will insult many older Americans and cause them to look at Biden in a more positive light. Considering that older Americans have tended to have a more favorable view of Republican candidates this will not be a positive for Trump going into the election.
Biden is not out of the game at all and he will rebound to crush Trump whose pre senile dementia and general behavior will become only more extreme as the election gets closer.
