I am very lucky. Got power back on just an hour ago. It was too late to save all the food I had in my fridge and freezer. Got a lot of shopping to do this weekend. Other than that, Carol and I came out of it OK. We were drenched with sweat for a while after the storm was over, but we are fine. During the storm, I got to see a small tornado cross a field where City of Houston trucks were normally parked. It did no damage, and was unlike any tornado I have ever seen. The damn thing was as skinny as a pencil.
/ANECDOTE
.
So much for the anecdote, and now for the freaking rant: Before every hurricane or tropical storm that has hit Houston (and I’ve been in quite a few of them), the State of Texas always got together with Centerpoint Energy and staged repair crews, ready to immediately get to work on putting everything back together quickly. Not this time. According to our friendly neighborhood Republican assholes who run this state, that would have cost taxpayer money, so it was not needed. So, for the first time in Houston’s history, crews were not immediately available. My power might be restored, but there are still more than a million and a half homes (which represent about 3 and a half million citizens) who are still without power, as well as many businesses. A few of them may have no power for weeks. This is freaking unacceptable, but this is Texas. And the assholes who run the State of Texas (into the freaking ground, for sure), dare to say that Joe Biden is not fit for the Job? What the mother freaking hell are they smoking? Hey Abbott: Want to know what’s wrong with the power grid here in the Lone Star State? Take a look in the freaking mirror… No, that won’t work. Ghouls don’t have reflections in mirrors.
