In all the excitement tonight, I feel that I should also mention something else that could possible lead to another star on our flag. The great people of Puerto Rico had a referendum tonight to see how they feel about their political status. It was two parts, the first question asking whether they want to stay the same or change status and the other what status would they prefer if not the status quo, the options were: statehood, free association, or total independence. Fifty three percent voted to change the status and 63% chose statehood. Here is a link (sorry about the Spanish, but I'm sure you can all figure it out.)

I'm going to make this short. I'm sure your are all aware of the fact that racism would cost the president some votes, but no one has ever shown anything about how much they think it would. Then I found this. So, what does everyone think? It also provided an interesting look, about prejudice by party.

So, this is going to be short, because I'm just looking for consensus on something. Today, during first period my teacher broached the subject on the fact that the last major housing project in our city is closing down (to make room for condos or something) and she asked us on our opinions. Basically the responses in class were either they didn't care or just tear it down. I'm not really sure how I feel. The area is apparently riddled with crime so the city government wants to get rid of it as a part of an urban renewal process I'm assuming. Just want to hear peoples opinions. And in case this comes up yes the area is mostly black and before people bring racism up for why my teacher or any students would want to get rid of it, both she and most of my class (and city) are black. Just so that doesn't get asked. Your thoughts.

I'm sure you've all heard that idiotic mantra parroted at least once before and so have I. I usually don't let it get to me but a few minutes ago I encountered it in a place I wouldn't expect nor was it welcomed and I need to vent while it is still fresh in my mind.

From my day to day experiences in school (which is now over where I am, yay!) occasionally things that I have often wanted to blog about. So, now I am. It'll be a different topic each time dealing with a different political or social issue that somehow managed to come up in some form. This diary will be about the up and coming presidential election. Reading the stories on this site and reading people's discussions about their political discussions with republicans or other dems makes me want to talk about my (admittedly rather brief and not too in-depth) discussions with people I would assume to be such. I find this entire situation very depressing. I have had many thoughts about this case, many of which I usually wouldn't discuss here but, I really feel like discussing this. It involves kids in my 7th period trigonometry class and the teacher. The students are black and the teacher is white. My teacher is a conservative just in case any of you are left wondering.
