Invoking the term "terrorism" is bound to ruffle feathers and stir sentiments in many different directions. Wikipedia defines terrorism thusly .."Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal, and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants (civilians)."

They go on to say that studies show there are over 100 definitions of terrorism. So apparently using the Wiki as a guide there is no consensus. That means it, the definition of terrorism is available to be exploited and examined.

There are subtle differences between becoming a victim of crime and staying safe. At all times we need to be informed and alert. It is when we are caught off guard by the friendly, clean cut guy or girl when crime often strikes. I am not talking white collar Enron-type crime, but brutal, physical attacks that leave permanent mental and physical scars on survivors and their families.

This latest scam is a good one. I received this story from a female friend of my wife. It arrived in an email. It is chilling, cunning and evil. It certainly can catch on in your city. In the meantime if the KOS community would like me to offer this on a regular basis I have included a poll.

This kind of story reeks of police abuse. A divorced mother harrassed in the middle of the night by the police. Their complaint? A custody and parenting dispute with her ex, a sheriff's lieutenant, used his authority to force his hand. She gets arrested.

Dailykos is a great read with many excellent diaries and opinions. Too often the stories are dire; war, global warming, pollution, health care, Bushco and so forth. Sometimes you just want to get away from it all. So I did just that. I booked 10 days in Mexico, to get away from it all. For me, time to blog.

This diary is about the weather, the issues, the people, the moment and a big question mark. Months ago, while contemplating the trip to Mexico it occurred to me 'vacation first' with the alterior motive of relocating to Mexico. What will it be like in a foreign country? Could sunny, affordable Mexico be the missing link between my native, sun-starved, tax rich Ohio?

I should point something put to me by a local here in Mexico- it is about citizens of the Americas. Some of us 'Americans' are from Mexico and south; others from United States and north. But we are all Americans. Somehow the term 'Americans' had become obfuscated as the 'province of the people north of the Rio Grande but south of Canada.' This is my first lesson in humility.

Homeownership in the U.S. is typlically a goal for most Americans- the so-called American Dream. Under the Bush Administration the goal to increase home ownership had become not just a campaign slogan but a full fledged priority.

The Administration had set itself on a course of no return when it had set its goal to increase home ownership. A worthy goal no doubt; homeownership has its own reward. Noble ideas in this Administration are easy to come by. Freedom for the Iraqi people was one of the Presidents stated goals. Who can argue with that? As it is in Iraq with no clear plan in the aftermath of war so it goes in the United States. The President had taken a position to free the American people from the status of rentership to one of ownership; a noble cause no doubt. It is in the aftermath of the President's goal where the wheels come off, despite ample warnings of the potential for massive mortgage fraud and abuse.

Now, from sea to shining sea in urban and suburban neighborhoods the American Dream for many is becoming a foreclosure, bankrupt nightmare. Is it any wonder why the banking industry sought to rush through Congress banruptcy reform?
