Well, they are it again. The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons have a new article out: Hydroxychloroquine Has about 90 Percent Chance of Helping COVID-19 Patients.
First, a little background on AAPS, as they go by, for those who don’t know these charlatans. This is a group that purports to be the alternative to the AMA, and fought PPACA and kisses Trump’s ass left and right. They won’t reveal their membership or their funding.
To give you an idea of them, my favorite article by these good folks: Obama's hypnotic induction techniques. Yes, that’s how President Obama won — he hypnotized us all into voting for him.
To get to the latest BS from this group: this article is a testimony to bad science and bad statistics.
Peer-reviewed studies published from January through April 20, 2020, provide clear and convincing evidence that HCQ may be beneficial in COVID-19, especially when used early, states AAPS. Unfortunately, although it is perfectly legal to prescribe drugs for new indications not on the label, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended that CQ and HCQ should be used for COVID-19 only in hospitalized patients in the setting of a clinical study if available. Most states are making it difficult for physicians to prescribe or pharmacists to dispense these medications.
Well, that’s great. They even have a table that shows these wonderfully impressive results.
hydroxychloroquine summary of "studies"
Let’s look at this list, shall we? The list gives the location/doctor performing the study, # of patients seen, # of patients treated with hydroxychloroquine, # Improved, # Died, Success Rate.
First — # of patients seen. Note that nowhere in the article or in the list of “studies” does it define this term. Most importantly, it doesn’t say these “patients” necessarily even had COVID-19 — there’s no data on whether they were tested or verified to have it.
Here’s how one of the “studies” is described: Dr. Son H Lee of Samsung Medical Center in South Korea treated 189 patients and 22 careworkers. # Improved notes “all viral tests were negative”. Really? so, did they ever even have COVID 19? We don’t know.
Second, success is defined as % of no mortality or probability of preventing death. Ah — the death rate from COVID-19 is somewhere between 1% — 4% even without hydroxychloroquine treatment. So, I could say aspirin is 96% — 99% successful in preventing death from COVID-19. Hell, I could say my Bailey’s Irish Coffee is 96% — 99% effective — I keep telling my wife that stuff is good medicine for what ails me!
Third, let’s look at a couple of these:
Quingdao China, March 16, 2020:
- Used 100 at least since they said greater than a hundred were treated
- # Improved: 100 assumed
- Deaths: 0
- Up to 100% may have improved.
Assumed? may have improved? LMAO, what kind of evidence is this?
Next up, several studies by Dr. Vladimir Zelenko. I’ll let Snopes explain what bullshit this is: 100% Success Rate Treating COVID-19 Dr. Vladimir Zelenko. BTW, Rudy Guliani is peddling this same Zelenko bullshit on Twitter, that’s all I need to know about what crap it is.
The rest of the list is the same nonsense. No real evidence, no defined terms, nothing. Yet Trumpies eat this up and put it all over Facebook, etc. without doing any due diligence, without even attempting to verify or understand what they are reading is pure crap. Look at this! — Trump was right!
No he wasn’t, and this kind of nonsense will do nothing but kill more people.
