I put these notes together for my reference over the next 10 days or so. Information comes from various sites — including the DNC and the RNC webpages, as well as information garnered from pertinent states. I’m putting it on DKos, because I thought some might find it useful.
If you see errors or omissions, please let me know.
Here are the definitions of the various types of primaries (as far as I could figure out).
Closed Caucus — you can only vote in a party’s primary if you are registered in that party.
Open Primary — you can vote in either party’s primary.
Closed Primary — you can only vote for the party with which you’re registered.
Semi-Closed Primary —unaffiliated voters may choose which party primary to vote in, while voters registered with a party may only vote in that party's primary.
Semi-Open Primary — registered voters need not declare which party they will vote in, until they enter voting booth.
