The world can not afford an American president (should it be Hillary Clinton) who will hold to and protect the status quo.
That status quo ...our economic/political system… is a death-and-destruction cult destroying lives, countries and, most urgently, the environmental systems that sustain all living things. And what really panics me is this: another 8 years of a “Democrat” who actually thinks/believes that this rotting system is the only way to solve the very problems it creates (h/t Einstein).
The status quo… brand Democrat and its corporatist agenda dancing with the bat-shit crazy insurgency (h/t Chomsky) that calls itself the “Republican” party… doesn’t bring us salvation, brothers and sisters. It only brings more death, destruction, confusion.
So here it is, for me: Clinton is still a vote for the lesser of two evils. It is my analysis that she believes in the current system and we simply do NOT have time for another 8 years of a Barack Obama-like presidency (which, imo, embraced and then expanded BushCo’s war and invited Wall Street into the administration).
"I represented New York, and I represented New York on 9/11 when we were attacked. Where were we attacked? We were attacked in downtown Manhattan where Wall Street is." "I did spend a whole lot of time and effort helping them rebuild," said Hillary Clinton, who represented New York from 2001 to 2009. "That was good for New York. It was good for the economy, and it was a way to rebuke the terrorists who had attacked our country."
Bernie Sanders is not the lesser of two evils, in my analysis. And this is a huge difference, given that there are still (a few) REAL DEMOCRATS left in Washington. Sanders and these Dems won’t be able to change much at first, but it isn’t legislation that needs doing: the greatest impact must be on us. I mean we (sane and secular) grunts on the ground: our behaviors, our values, and our interaction with politics and economics must evolve and become more powerful.
We must assume the responsibility as the fourth branch of government: WE THE PEOPLE who let weeds grow to feed the bees in early spring, who stop using poisons on our lawns, who stop buying plastic, who bring recycled bags to the grocery and refuse plastic straws and stirs in restaurants. We’ll learn that we can have BIG IMPACT simply by taking the fight to our own backyards, neighborhoods, and out into the local business community.
We’ll learn how to expand the growing movements in communities already working to localize and regionalize economies, starting with local farmers and small local/regional business. The new revolution will work to contract the global economy to stem pollution and poisoning of the developing world. And we will learn how to stop those open-carry, stand-your-ground mother fuckers.
Yeah: a Bernie Sanders presidency has the greatest potential to elevate and coalesce #BlackLivesMatter, #OCCUPY, and Native American movements, for three, as essential in an America that places justice, fairness, sanity, and secularity as its highest priorities. We will learn how to elevate and protect, in national law, the civil rights and liberties of ALL citizens so that marriage, sex, gender, religion are left to the dominion of the individual and not the state.
If we want to salvage this world, mitigate the enormous challenges we face, we must upend the status quo and create new, fairer, more just systems. Bernie Sanders and his consistent views over 40 years tells me he has the potential to bring us together, help us come face-to-face with disaster and to free ourselves, brave up and get in this game.
Just like this young man: he’s one the world’s game changers (h/t to my stepson for turning me on to Kendrick).
But the status quo… it believes only in itself.
