Please correct me if I am wrong. But wasn't the citizenship clause of the 14th amendment put in there to overturn the Dred Scot Case?

Some states are using the Federal Government program for high risk pools while other states are doing it on their own. Ohio is doing it on their own and looks to be about a month away from implementation. Below is a letter on the Ohio Insurance website explaining the program and requirements.

We are moving in the right direction. Health reform was about increasing access. This is a fine example of that.

I've been mauling this over for a while and wanted to float this thinking by all of you. The Tea Party patriots of 1773 took action to oppose undemocratic taxation and trade laws. The key word here is undemocratic. As I am sure you all remember from 8th grade social studies, the colonists were not allowed to have directly elected representatives in the British Parliament. The laws the colonists were required to follow were passed without their input or vote.

Fast forward to today. The current "Tea Party" folks are trying to cloak themselves in the same cloth as the original colonial patriots. This connection is FALSE! The current tea party movement lost an election that they had a vote in. The duly elected representatives of the people have passed a law that they as a minority group disagree with. The two tea party groups could not be further from each other in their aims...

Happy Winter Solstice.
As the owner of a solar powered home, this day means the beginning of the lengthening of daylight. This past year my solar PV system produced all of my power. I had a credit for the year. I am looking forward to the plug-in hybrids. I use time of day net-metering to maximize the benefits. The cost of my system was about $40,000. A state grant and the federal tax credit paid for half of it. I looked at it as less expensive than most cars. I'm getting about a 3-4% return on the investment each year. In addition, I have an agreement with a utiltity company to buy my Renewable Energy Credits that the system earns for an additional $2500 this year. Solar power is better and safer than the stock market.

The new solar tax credit in 2009 will pay for 1/3 the cost of installing a new system. For each $1 in energy savings the value of the home goes up by $20. This creates a great hedge against future electric increases. How many home projects actually increase the value of your home over time? In our state several colleges have programs now in renewable energy to produce a trained work force. It is time to look into this for the average homeowner.

I got a call from my Ohio Republican Congressman's office today and ended up talking to two different aides for about half an hour. The original reason for the call was a response to an email I sent them about the Congressman voting against the war supplemental. I don't like how Republicans make those kind of votes tests of patriotism when they are in the Majority, but look for excuses to vote no when in the minority. The aide said the congressman was worried about the lack of language preventing the release of detainee abuse photos. I mentioned that the President had given his word that they would not be released. He then said that the bill included funding for the IMF that could ultimately go to nations that support terrorism.

Just in case the United Nations tries to force the Zimbabwe Dollar on Americans, Michele Bachmann will be there to save us.

Senator Brown Votes Against Lieberman

I received this email from his office today:

Thank you for contacting me regarding Senator Joe [UTF-8?]Liebermanâ€™s role as chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs. On November 18, the Senate Democratic caucus voted to recommend that Senator Lieberman continue as chair of the Homeland Security Committee while relinquishing his membership and subcommittee chairmanship on the Committee on Environment and Public Works. The full Senate will act on this recommendation in January.

I believe that a committee chairman should be a leader in the party, and I do not believe that Senator Lieberman has demonstrated appropriate leadership. That is why I voted to require Senator Lieberman to relinquish his chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee. A majority of the Senate Democratic caucus felt differently, however, and I will respect the decision of my colleagues.

I am glad that Senator Lieberman wants to stay in the caucus. I look forward to the [UTF-8?]Senatorâ€™s support on important issues such as jobs, health care, and education.
