Even though the facts show that Hillary Clinton supports her donors over the American people.
Even though the facts show that Hillary Clinton will lie by making open ended promises to the American People.
and Even though the facts show that Hillary Clinton will be quick to go to war instead of searching for peaceful options.
Hillary Clinton will win the Democratic Presidential Nomination.
She will win, not because the people who voted for her were idiots, stupid, ignorant, or voted willfully against their own best interest. She will win because, those people who might seem ignorant or stupid, are actually very stressed, hurt, angry, and most importantly BUSY with their lives. They are so busy that when a politician makes them feel like they are being heard, and gives them a simple answer to their problems, they give that politician their trust, vote, and most importantly they begin to identify with that politician. This is identity politics.
Hillary Clinton will win the Democratic Presidential Nomination because she is better at identity politics and Bernie Sanders sadly sucks at it.
But it doesn't have to be this way. There is still time for Bernie and his voters (I am one too) to learn from their mistakes and to make a very strong politician, run an equally strong campaign. To combine the brutally honest truth with the brutally humane Bernie Sanders.
How do we turn the gains that Hillary has had into future wins for Bernie? Here are my ideas, if you have any pull with the Bernie campaign please share these ideas with them.
1) Bernie and his passionate voters need to use the strong language of the right and frame it in the ideas of the left. Here are some examples:
On Public Education: “I believe only your child should profit from their education, not for profit companies!” “ No company should be allowed to steal from a child’s education to make their profit!”
On a Living Wage: ” I believe in the American Dream that if you work hard, and play by the rules you should make a living wage.” “You bailed them out, they shouldn't forget that.” They were bailed out from their mistake, not yours. Now its time for them to pay back their loan!”
2) Bernie needs to un muddy the waters by differentiating himself from Hillary Clinton. However, he does not need to, nor should he, go negative and attack Hillary. Instead Bernie should attack Hillary Clinton’s donor base using the evocative language of the right and frame it in the ideas of the left. Here are some ways he could:
On Public Education: I believe only your child should profit from their education, not for profit companies. Thats why I do not accept money from X, Y, and Z ( for profit test companies, and or charter schools that donate to hillary) Those companies pay politicians to allow them to steal from your children’s education and from your tax payer dollars to make their profits. They essentially fail your children for their profit. If you believe that no child should be failed for profit you should vote for me.
We have the power to be the change we wish to see. Lets all come up with more simple and provocative language to push forward our great and powerful ideas.
