Okay, I put on the wet suit, plugged up my nostrils and went dumpster diving again at the freeper sites. The quotations below are NOT cherry-picked, i.e., I didn't search long and hard to find statements that make them look like...well, like they're losing it.
Here's a taste:
I've never done a vanity but I've noticed a bit of sad-sacks talking of nerves. I for one feel great about tomorrow's election... I feel we are going to sweep the states. I feel a landslide.
more below the fold.
The same poster writes:
The dems are screaming, the reported are all biting their nails knowing they are going to lose only holding on to their faith in socialism. The best the dems and liberals can hope for is a close race although 9 out of 10 polls show Bush in the lead in nearly all of October. They never mention this in liberal land.
Republicans are cool, we are holding back with quite confidence set to the rhythm by the Republican leadership. The best we Republicans can hope for is a landslide including Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Iowa, Minnesota, and Hawaii. Tomorrow it's raining in every democrat state that is battleground. Stanford University figures we have a 78% probability of winning tomorrow. We are up in the Iowa Electronic Markets. We won the Scholastic and Weekly Reader Polls.
We have a man that never loses in President Bush.
Gotta love 'em. "9 out of 10 polls show Bush in the lead in nearly all of October." Can't you just feel the overwhelming brainpower behind that one? And citing polls of /schoolchildren as evidence of momentum?
I don't know what those "Stanford University" figures are, though. ANyone wanna enlighten me?
Onward. The optimists chime in:
You believe and you keep fighting. It gives you courage and energy to think positive. The truth is it's more fun to win a hell of a battle against a tough opponent.
And the paranoiacs do their part:
I believe many of the downers here are trolls and some of them quite long-term ones. Some are very subtle but their whole goal is to question every positive bit of news and to dampen our spirits and motivation. Watch out for them, they are adept at their deception.
They're doing their best to chew on the news that Kerry is leading decisively in early voting in Florida. I like this guy's deep insight:
I have no scientific basis for saying this, but I sincerely believe only an early voting Republican would be reluctant to tell a pollster who he voted for. Republicans are, afterall, the primary victims of media spin. And of this they are very cogniscant.
Very cogniscant indeed, sir. Apparently, even mentioning the emerging picture in Florida brands you as a traitor to the cause:
Ok, than, I will vote for Kerry the American traitor. You are right, since I know Democrats always tell the truth and have our interest in mind...Thank you! Thank you very much....I BELIEVE I BELIEVE
Oh, and the troubling FOX NEWS poll results?
We know that the MSM manipulates stories in order to take down Republicans and these same people are the ones taking the polls. IF they manipulate news to favor Kerry, what makes you think that they get all honest when it comes to the polls they report.
I don't trust polls one bit, not only due to the above, but also because people are starting to catch on to the MSM.
{remember...this is FOX he's freeping on about.]
But the most telling indicator is the high tide of bile against the very concept of polls. Not Don't believe in them, but They should not exist.
Man, I wish we could simply outlaw polling. So many people put so much credence in polls, and in the end, many of them are worthless.
...
Polls are a blight on the election process. Politicians use them to guage opinion and that is outrageous. We cannot outlaw them but we should impose term limits for every political office.
...
No rational thinking person should ever honestly answer a poll. If one does than the purpose should be solely to skewer the results.
...
Exactly! Those polling organizations need to fold. For someone to admit a poll is essentially worthless on TV after Fox touted it all afternoon is irresponsible journalism and polling thrown together.
Now, we Kossacks aren't immune to loving polls when they trend one way, and hating them when they trend another. But we don't float the idea of suppressing the very concept or polling.
One last inspirational post, certain to switch all our votes:
The Bush doctrine is set national policy and rhetoric. Its logic is unimpeachable, and not even his opponent contests it.
Okay? Gotta shower now. Feeling good about tomorrow.
