According to several sources, the Sons of Sam Horn website (Red Sox fan site) had a lengthy thread on who the posters dedicated the Sox victory to. I haven't seen it yet, but I hope to soon.
This idea, plus seeing the birthday post for Ari and subsequent comments made me realize something. I didn't just vote for my own self-interest.
Call me idealistic, but if what we do is done only to serve ourself, what have we become? What will we become?
So while I've already voted, worn out some shoes block-walking, and spent countless hours with friends and family persuading them to vote, I'd just like to say I dedicate my vote to my 8 year old nephew, Tristan, who represents to me the love and promise our American future holds, and my 58 year old father, my link to my heritage and my past, who raised me to know the value of a dollar as well as the value of my words and deeds. He's had some health issues in the last few years, the result of a lifetime of hard work, and thanks to the VA, I believe his life has been extended.
We've had some difficult times in the last few years...a heart attack, near-blindness, the loss of my cousin (his nephew) at a far too young age...the list goes on and on. He supported me emotionally when I decided to go back to school at age 27, and he'll be undergoing eye surgery in a couple of weeks. Hopefully, he'll literally be able to see his oldest son graduate college in a few weeks at the ripe young age of 29.
Tristan, we owe you a world greater than the one we entered. And Dad, we owe you for the world we inherited.
This one's for you, Tristan. And this one's for you, Dad.
