In the 90's the neocons were so frightened by Bill Clinton that they spent, by some estimates, a quarter of a billion dollars to oust the man from the White House. They weren't successful. For the last four years we were sure that Bush was not re-electable. We were wrong. But it is not the end of the world. We just need to regroup, refocus, and take the battle to them for four straight years rather than just in election years. More below.
Why did they hate Clinton so much? Because he wanted to energize the middle class, lift them up and make them the masters of the country. This frightened, nay terrified, the elites. Suddenly they were faced with a fast growing number of "new money" millionaires who had the ability to affect politics in the same manner that they had; with money. Most of these new elites were young, aggressive, and liberal. And all of a sudden their "birth-rights" were in jeopardy. What did they do? They came up with a plan. Destroy the president and stop the encroachment on their territory.
For nine full years they tried to overthrow the government. They lied, they planted, they slander, libeled, and stole. They spent hundreds of millions of private money and nearly fifty million in taxpayer money to perpetrate their vendetta. They failed.
We need a plan. We need to execute it and we need to start winning back the country.
The country survived Clinton despite the GOP's worst fears. The country will survive Bush despite our worst fears.
First and foremost we need to adopt some new rules. We need to leak stories to the press. We need to privately fund investigations into Bush misdeeds, such as Enron, Halliburton, and Koch Industries. We need to form a media corps that lobbies big media to investigate the Bush administration. Clinton got railroaded by the media for no reason (nobody would have known he got a blowjob if the media would have stopped listening to Scaife leaks about Whitewater, Paula Jones, and Gennifer Flowers.) Bush has forged a trail of mistakes that the media should be hammering him on. They won't unless we let them know that there is a market and an audience for them to do just that. For the media it is all about making money. If they think the story will sell ads, sell newspapers, or attract viewers they will report the story. We have to make it our jobs to find the stories and then enlighten corporate media of its relevance and that it will be an income generator.
Finally, we may have lost the election but we are 55 million people away from losing the war. For the next four years its all about continued attacks on the GOP for their fiscal irresponsibility, their bigotted views, their overblown, yet perceived, moral superiority, and their idea that the country should be ruled by the upper class minority and not the middle class majority.
I love America because the Phoenix can always rise from the ashes of its defeat and exact its revenge.
