Culled from various blogs and sites this is a preliminary list of the major entities contesting the Iraqi Election.
Additonally note that the election is pure proportional representation . Eg. If you get 20% of the vote, you get 20% of the 275 seats available. i.e. 55 seats. The first 55 names on the parties list will thus be declared elected.
Major parties
Shia religious
United Iraqi Alliance AKA United Iraqi Congress.
Organized at the behest of Shiite Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani. It is a coalition of 22 political parties and groups, including candidates from the two largest Shiite political parties, the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) and the Islamic Al-Dawah Party. Other candidates on the list include Iraqi National Congress (INC) head Ahmad Chalabi, as well as Sunni, Kurdish, Yezidi, and Turkoman groups, as well as the Al-Shammar tribe.
The tribe is comprised of both Sunni and Shi'a members. Rebel Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's Al-Sadr Movement will reportedly not officially join the list, but it was reported that the movement's representatives will be listed as independent candidates on it.
Note that as many as half of the candidates are independents not affiliated with a particular party and thus ostensibly loyal to Sistani himself.
Heading the list is Abdel-Aziz al-Hakim,of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution.

Sunni Religious
Iraqi Islamic Party.
NOTE THE IRAQI ISLAMIC PARTY HASWITHDRAWN FROM THE ELECTIONS
Sunni political party led by Secretary-General Dr. Muhsin Abd-al-Hamid (who served on the Iraqi Governing Council) and by Assistant Secretary-General Iyad Al-Samarra'i. Although ideologically similar to the Muslim Brotherhood, top officials within the Iraqi Islamic Party insist that no formal association exists between the two groups. The party was established in the late 1950s and operated clandestine armed groups, at one time purported to have some 2,000 armed members. The group has claimed that it is amenable to a federalist system, wherein the Kurdish region of Iraq would enjoy a degree of autonomy. It submitted 275 names.
Secular
People's Union List. AKA Union of Peoples AKA Union of Communities.
The Communist Party is Iraq's oldest dating from 1935.

Independent Iraqi Democrats Movement A.K.A. Independent Democratic Movement A.K.A. Independent Democratic Gathering
Elder Sunni statesman Adnan Pachachi, a former foreign minister, and current interim National Assembly member heads the list of at least 70 candidates. Reportedly the list includes several cabinet ministers as well as Al-Sadr City notables Jalal al-Mashitah and Imad Jasim;
Iraqiyun (Iraqis).
Established by interim President Ghazi Ajil al-Yawir (Sunni).The president declined to name the parties and individuals affiliated with his party, saying the membership will be announced soon. Al Yawer reportedly has strong backing from the Sunni tribal leaders
Iraqi List.
Led by interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi (Shia) , the list is reportedly comprised of leading tribal figures. Details of the list are sketchy. Allawi?s list could include several of his cabinet ministers. There are unconfirmed Iraqi media reports that the Iraqi List may be merged with interim President Ghazi al-Yawir's Iraqiyun list.

Kurdish Unity List AKA Kurdistan Alliance
Iraq's two main Kurdish parties, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), announced on 1 December that they would run a joint list called the Kurdish Unity List. KDP leader Mas'ud Barzani and PUK head Jalal Talabani noted that smaller parties allied with the Kurdish groups will be included on what he termed the "broad national list." Kurdistani Alliance List includes:

Democratic Coalition of Rafidain (Mesopotamia)
A Christian list, the DCR has offered 12 candidates from two of Iraq?s eight Christian parties.
Democratic Al-Rafidain Coalition, a Christian list, includes:

Kurdistan Democratic Solution Party.
The party, headed by Fay'iq Muhammad Ahmad Kubi, announced that it will field candidates in both the national and Kurdistan parliament elections on an independent list. The party was founded in 2002 and is an offshoot of the former Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), a group on the U.S. State Department's list of foreign terrorist organizations.

Constitutional Monarchy Movement.
Headed by Sharif Ali bin al-Husayn, the party announced on 12 December that it has submitted a 275 member list (one source says only 40 + members) to the Electoral Commission. Details of the list are not known. Al-Husayn is the cousin of the deposed Iraqi king, Faysal II, who was killed in the 1958 coup in Iraq.
Iraqi National Unity Grouping
. Led by Nihru Muhammad Abd al-Karim al-Kasanzan al-Husayni, the grouping calls for a national reconciliation among Iraqi ethnic and political groups. He believes that Kirkuk should be a city for all ethnic groups, and claims to have good relations with Kurdish, Arab, and Turkoman parties. He supports a federal Kurdistan.He is the son of Sheikh Muhammad al-Kasanzan al-Husayni, who leads the Qadiriyah Al-Kasanzaniyah religious school.
Iraqi Unified Democratic Congress
Headed by Jawdat Obeidi, a former Baathist general who broke with Saddam, the IUDC fielded 175 candidates. It is a regional party, centered on the southern city of Hillah.

Another Sunni party, NDP has submitted a 12-candidate list. Reports have this party joining the United Iraqi Alliance.
Rally for Iraqi National Union
RINU has put forward 275 candidates, headed by Mohammed Abdel Karim, head of a Sunni Sufi Kurdish sect known for having links with Ezzat Ibrahim, the former number two in the regime of Saddam Hussein and who is still being hunted.
Rally of the Nation
Headed by the son of a former Shiite minister, Saad Saleh Jaber, RN has put forward 227 candidates, drawn from the Party of the Nation and the Rally for Democracy.
