(There are photographic Illustrations depicting the sorrows of war. I created them because I feel that it is important to show the consequences of Bush's reckless foreign policy.)
I am tired of Republicans and their false outrage. They are outraged that a man like Martin Luther King, who lead a life speaking out for what is right, should be celebrated by speaking out. They are outraged that bubble boy Bush had to witness what people really think of him. They are outraged at the public support against Bush that grows stronger with each new day. Where was the outrage when King was shot? Where was the outrage when Blacks were unable to vote? Are Republicans that eager to be seen by the world as the racists they are? The audacity of the GOP to claim that the heartfelt words that were loudly spoken at the King funeral showed a lack of respect is ridiculous. The people stood up and cheered! They shouted out in agreement and joy that truth was being spoken in a loud voice. This is the real reason for the false outrage. We are standing up and speaking out. We are daring to spread hope.
Come with me to the other side....
The outrage from the GOP today has at its source their lack of control over we the people. People dared to Speak out while Bush was in the room. While the boy in the bubble sat pretending to give a shit, truth was spoken in a loud voice. Truth is like Kryptonite to Republicans. The GOP is unable to tolerate opposition and that is the real reason for the outrage. The GOP can't control everything. They can not control how we run a funeral. They had their week-long-orgy-fest over Reagan. We let them have it. We respected their right to honor someone they loved in the way they see fit. How we honor our dead is not something they have a say in. As if Bush has a leg to stand on when it comes to honoring the dead! What about the
2,261 deaths caused by the illegal war Bush started? What? No outrage? Where is the outrage that Bush rarely appears to support the fallen warriors he sends into battle? He is too busy in the bubble to even notice. Maybe he assumes someone else will honor the dead for him.
Where is the outrage? Where is the anger from the GOP on the issue of all the mothers and fathers who have children who were killed by falling bombs in Iraq? They have the balls to try to tell us how to run a funeral while in the same breath the white house drops bombs across the middle east. Where is the compassion for the Iraqi mother that cries for her loss? Where is the outrage for the child who lies bloodied from a war he was raised in?
Funerals blossom like wild flowers in the sands of the middle east and Republican shills parrot their talking points about the King funeral. Parents mourn their dead children. Children mourn their dead parents. Where is the outrage from the right when our freedom falls in the form of a bomb and kills an entire family that did nothing wrong other than live in the country we decided to illegally invade?
All the while, in the name of fighting terrorism, we have created more violence. Violence only creates more violence. As the GOP wraps itself in the American flag, remember that terrorism is on the rise. The number of terrorism related deaths has more than tripled under the reign of King Bush. In the name of spreading peace, Bush spreads only grief and death.
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
- Martin Luther King, Jr.
You can not bomb a country into peace. Dropping our red white and blue bombs in Iraq, the pundits sit and wonder why the violence only escalates. For every child that we kill there is a parent with a desire to fight back. For every father that we kill there are children who become motivated to strike back.
So, when you see the false outrage of the GOP, remember the lack of outrage they show for the horror those in power have wrought on this world. Remember the way they treat those of us who dare to stand up in opposition to King George. Remember that they call those of us who rise up "terrorists." They would rather silence us than face the truths that we would shout out. They spy on us as if we were the enemy... as if it were the antiwar protesters who were unleashing terror across the world.
The white house has blood on its hands. The red in the American flag runs down the streets of Baghdad. It pools in war-torn neighborhoods where people huddle over the bodies of their loved ones.
Bush dances through life surrounded by his yes men ignorant of the fact that he has blood on his hands. Unaware of the fact that he is directly responsible for unimaginable amounts of grief and sorrow. Unaware that he is the greatest threat this world faces as it reaches for world peace. Bush has blood on his hands - the blood of families and children - but he does not have the intelligence or curiosity to notice.
Surrounded by his prescreened audiences, he never hears the anger and horror that many Americans feel towards him. His oil cronies get richer and richer as Iraq grows more and more unstable. Bush can just close his eyes to the reality of the world and waltz through life in joyful ignorance. The children of Iraq are unable to cover their eyes to hide form the horror they live in. Even with eyes closed, they feel the burning heat of war tearing their lives apart.
Does Bush realize how frightening he sounds when he speaks of spreading freedom? Does he not feel the chilling terror that lurks behind his falsely compassionate words? Words that are meant to inspire are instead words that instill a feeling of sorrow and loss. Words meant to uplift and inspire instead bring me only fear and compassion for those that are experiencing the "fires of freedom". We have not brought freedom to Iraq. We have simply changed the flag hanging outside the torture chamber. Gonzales sits in a position of power and condones torture. "In my judgment, this new paradigm renders obsolete Geneva's strict limitations on questioning of enemy prisoners" he tells us. We are told that it is just a few bad apples that have done these horrendous deeds. A few bad apples.
Where is the outrage from the GOP? Hypocrisy. Can nothing these people say be taken as truth? They have lost all credibility. They have destroyed my ability to believe anything that is uttered from their mouths. Bush says in his State of the Union speech that we are addicted to oil. As he forced those words awkwardly from his mouth even he looked surprised. I could almost hear the crashing sound of TV's being smashed by blunt objects. Yes, the country we live in is addicted to oil. Thanks to Bush, Cheney, Rice, and the rest of his ex-oil tycoons who now run our country. Oil prices are at an all time high. As we fight wars across the globe to get our hands on more oil, remember where the money goes each time you fill up at the pump. We are funding our enemies. In our short sighted greed, most Americans refuse to think where the vast majority of the money they spend on gas goes. Yes the price of oil is on the rise. Just remember who it is that is paying the ultimate price.
Yet through all this I dare to feel hope. I know that the tides are turning. I feel hope here at Daily Kos. I feel the change in the wind. I see it in the new found courage that Democrats have. I feel hope when seeing the courage of Senators like Feingold and Obama. I feel hope in the movement to replace false Democrats with real ones. Yes, I dare to feel hope. And I pray that the citizens of Iraq dare to feel hope as well. The opposition grows. I believe Bush will face the realities of the decisions he has made. I feel hopeful that Republicans will join us and do the right thing to end this tyranny so that the people of Iraq can finally have peace... so they can look out the window and see children at play instead of the fires of their burning city.
I dare to feel hope.
