Don't let the Bushies dominate the debate! Here's what I sent in:
What does Bush need to do to win my vote? How long is your program? For starters, he'd have to stop saying one thing to please moderates and doing a completely different thing to please the religious right. He'd have to commit to protecting the future of our children by safeguarding the environment, pursuing real policies (not just offering lip service) to improve public education, working with the international community to make the world a safer place instead of a more dangerous one for Americans, and to stop forcing future generations to pay for short-sighted tax breaks for the richest people in the country. He'd have to ensure that all Americans have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness -- not just straight white men with trust funds. He'd have to show me that he actually understands the complex issues facing our country and our world today -- not just that he's some rash cowboy-despot who blindly follows a tight cadre of (unelected) ideologues. He'd have to live up to his campaign promise to be a "uniter, not a divider" instead of someone who is happy to have surrogates spread lies and smear attacks against anyone who questions his authority and policies. He'd have to become someone who brings out the best in Americans, rather than pandering to our worst instincts. What would it take for me to vote for Bush? More than he is capable of delivering.
