WTF is up with Jon Stewart and The Daily Show? Is he toning it down and pulling punches to position himself to join the mainstream media?
I just watched the Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 shows. Monday's show was jaw-droppingly disappointing. Pretty much the entire show was about the sham elections in Iraq, but Stewart soft-pedaled his commentary of the whole farce and stopped just short of parroting the mainstream media.
There were no jokes about the "votes-for-food" program or about U.S. troops breaking into homes "searching for insurgents" and then asking the residents if they had voted yet. NOTHING about the fact that Bush initially opposed holding elections in Iraq. Only a minor comment-in-passing about the fact that the first reason the Bush administration gave for invading was the WMDs and that "spreading democracy" was only a Plan D afterthought when the administration's initial lies were exposed.

Stewart even seemed to go out of his way to make fun of John Kerry by showing out-of-context clips of Kerry's Sun. Jan. 30 interview on Meet The Press.
Gee, I bet Sunday's elections in Iraq make it all OK for the family and friends of the 1500+ and counting dead U.S. soldiers. Can't you just hear their parents saying, with a satisfied smile, "Yeah, that was worth my child's life. My son/daughter died so they could vote."
So, WTF is up with Jon Stewart and The Daily Show?
