The axis of evil runs somewhere between K Street and Constitution Avenue.
Scott Ritter (former UNSCOM Arms Inspector in Iraq) was on Air America yesterday afternoon with Randi Rhodes. He claims he was consulted by the administration in November last year and learned of its plans for a bombing campaign in Iran. He was very clear that the U.S. has developed a plan but the order has not been given to implement the plan.
Ritter said that the architect of the plan for war in Iran is John Bolton and that this is behind his nomination to ambassador to the U.N.
The basic idea is that in June Iran will "reach the point of no return" in terms of developing a nuclear weapon. Ariel Sharon is already on record saying this. When the time comes in June, Bolton will go to the Security Council demanding sanctions against Iran. When Germany, France, Russia, etc. refuse, the U.S. will claim it has no choice but to proceed unilaterally.
Ritter says that Iran has been developing a Nuclear energy program since the 1970s when the U.S. told the government of the Shah that Iran needed an alternative strategy to reliance on oil. The Shah started developing nuclear power generation and the Islamic Republic inherited the program and continued it. Ritter says that Iran has no nuclear weapons program.
You can listen to the interview at the Air America website. Ritter was right about WMD in Iraq.
Does anyone know more about this? Is it true? Is it wrong? This sounds truly terrible.
