While sitting in the doctor's waiting room earlier this afternoon, I came upon this snippet in the June, 2005, edition of
Saturday Night magazine.
Saturday Night magazine is a companion rag to Canada's national, conservative leaning newspaper,
The National Post.

Favourite web links of Lloyd Axworthy, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Winnipeg, United Nations special envoy to Ethiopia and Eritrea, and former foreign affairs minister.
www.bbcnews.com/africa
"BBC News Africa is the only site with reports from Ethiopia and Eritrea, and commentary about peace -- or the lack thereof."
www.unwire.org
"Because ofmy UN work and my international interests, I like the UN wire. It's a UN information site with a daily e-mail, and I pick off the items I want."
www.nytimes.com
"I can get the crosswords and, aside from other news, read Maureen Dowd."
www.dailykos.com
"I've just discovered the blog site Daily Kos, having become one of their subjects. It certainly seems to touch a lot of nerves in a lot of different places. Maybe we should rethink our foreign policy and get on the blog system. It's a whole new network, a very potent and surprising kind of experience.
"
Emphasis mine
That's very flattering. Who is Lloyd Axworthy and why was he a topic of discussion on Daily Kos, you ask? Well, you'll be interested in reading this front page post by kos about Axworthy's scathing March letter to Condi Rice that appeared in the Winnipeg Free Press. I know some of you won't follow the links to actually read the letter, but maybe this will peek your interest:
Dear Condi,
I'm glad you've decided to get over your fit of pique and venture north to visit your closest neighbour. It's a chance to learn a thing or two. Maybe more.
I know it seems improbable to your divinely guided master in the White House that mere mortals might disagree with participating in a missile-defence system that has failed in its last three tests, even though the tests themselves were carefully rigged to show results.
But, gosh, we folks above the 49th parallel are somewhat cautious types who can't quite see laying down billions of dollars in a three-dud poker game.
...
Outspoken Liberal, Lloyd Axworthy holds a place of high esteem in international political circles. He was considered for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on the Ottawa Treaty, the international agreement to ban land mines. He is currently the president of the University of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
It's truly humbling to know that such a man takes time to read Daily Kos. We often wonder who's lurking. It's also of note that his recommendation appeared in a publication that appeals to conservatives. Be prepared for a mini-invasion of Canadian conservative lurkers, and possibly posters, as well.
After arriving home from the doctor's office with this news in hand, I have to say I was a tad embarassed to find the number one diary on the recommended list was "We're Really Stupid". Obviously, we aren't. Otherwise, we would not have readers such as the distinguished Mr Axworthy among us.
