This is a pretty critical point for our party. Dean said true things that MAY be percieved as going over the top, or may turn the tone of this media against the Republicans, and the favor to the Democrats. Democrats have stopped criticizing Dean for now, and Republicans have gone wild. They want to portray Dean, our party leader, who truly is going to show a difference in our party vs. the Republican party, as isolated and alone with no real support from anywhere. Never mind that the gap between the RNC and DNC's money has gone down from 3-1 to 2-1 from good contributions. Never mind that Dean has helped our party get more energized and is finally not afraid to speak the truth. The GOP is trying to marginalize him- and therefore discredit us.
WE NEED A BAT. Remember in the days of Dean, when a bat would draw up so much money. We dont need a bat from the DNC however.
The petition up there on the reccomended list is "Dean speaks for me". It has 6761 signatures so far, and rising. 6761. Just mostly from DKOS!!!! If each of those gave an average of 10 bucks to our bat, we have over 60K right there.
But this has to be a joint effort! If Moveon, TrueMajority, TruthOut, DFA etc. all link to the same bat(or totals are combined in the bat), in our "Dean speaks for me" bat-- think about an impact that would make.
First, the DNC can really use the money.
Second, the RNC's attempts to marginalize Dean would backfire- they would look like idiots.
Third, the media would pick up on what Dean is saying, and see that its not a crazy Vermonter saying this with no support-- it truly would have big advantages.
Time is running out. The Republican spin machine is in full motion. Lets counter it.
