Bush laid out nothing but a line of pure BS. Mark my words. We can't rebuild NO at the bottom of a toilet bowl. It will have to be filled in. Or a trillion dollars worth of 'super levees' will have to be built to protect it.
What about NO is worth a TRILLION dollars? I wouldn't give you a billion for the whole shit hole.
Bush is a 50 cent politician with poor handlers.
I've HAD it!
Hey, me too!
Join 'em on the flip:
imagine the legal fees. there will be environmental challenges to every project - all litigated, the federal money used to pay lawyers, settlements to plantiffs who win. the lawyers are going to decend on this region like locusts.
When you add in the hundreds of billions of dollars for pork construction projects and hundreds of billions of dollars for Medicare drugs, and hundreds of billions of dollars for entitlement spending that has not been cut, we are going to have the largest deficits and ever increasing national debt (now some $40,000,000,000,000) and growing.
The dollar will fall. Inflation will rise. People who save and invest will be screwed. This is how nations decline.
My extended family have lost 7 homes and will rebuild everyone of them with or without the government. I do not want anything to do with Blanco and her gang and if Bush has a brain in his head will avoid local govt at all cost. As far as the levee's are concerned, if the Dutch can do it we can too.
No, it doesn't sound crass... it sounds terribly simple minded. Congratulations on giving. Don't sprain yourself patting yourself on the back. But unless you've given enough to rebuild the area, then the money will have to come from another source.
President Bush was NOT responsible. The "solution" should not be a federal issue either. If we were a centralized statist nation, then the Federal Government is responsible for each house, block, neighborhood, city, county, state and region. Do you believe we are a centralized statist nation now? Is that why you like it? I disagree with you. Bush should have said the locals at city, parish and county and state levels were responsible for the planning and preparation and event management, and that the Feds were only responsible for FEMA post-event help and assistance.
My stomach could not allow me to watch the full speech as I only can take so much socialism promises, but just one thing...........I assume President Bush did not mention one thing about stopping foreign aid or cutting back on other programs to pay for this reconstruction. Am I correct? If so, what is your reaction to President Bush promising billions without some reduction offset in other programs??? Anyone?
I best not respond because I have a feeling I am gonna be really ticked off having to spend tax-dollars on this man-made disaster and the additional costs involved because of the ramifications of it. We will be hit from all sides before this is done. Good luck to all of us.
Since he will do nothing but encourage the "taking generation", I am forced to ask..What am I going to get out of this speech?...Remember me? The taxpayer, the respectful patriotic American??
Donut hole for me right mr. President?
I was day-dreaming at work today.
I imagined President Bush would use this speech to remind people that the government is NOT responsible for us.
That it was a shame to see so many in such a state of poverty that they could not provide an exit for themselves.
That if so many dollars were not sucked up in welfare payments, they'd have the money for all the structural repairs, plus some.
That they only way out of poverty is hard work.
Then announce a big fat tax cut to businesses to help them grow and hire!
The president has forgotten his base. He's responding to the usual criticisms of the left by apologizing (for what?!) and committing ungodly sums of taxpayer money to New Orleans. He's played right into the left's hand and has lost my favor on this one.
