This NYTimes article provides the only question Democrats need concern themselves with over whether to support Harriet Miers or whether to fight like hell to filibuster her:
Conservatives Are Wary Over President's Selection
Karl Rove, the president's top political adviser, started calling influential social conservatives to reassure them about the pick even before it was announced. He called James C. Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, over the weekend, [...]
By day's end, Mr. Dobson, one of the most influential evangelical conservatives, welcomed the nomination. "Some of what I know I am not at liberty to talk about," [...]
In an interview, Mr. Dobson said he came out to support her partly because of her faith and partly because he believed she opposed abortion. "I have reason to believe she is pro-life," he said.
This is the crux of the matter. Rove has now given his personal assurance to Dobson that Miers is "good people" and will rule as a female scalia on social conservative matters. Either Rove is Punking Dobson or he is, himself, getting Punk'd by Miers.
These two represent the Republican Party in power and the Republican Party base. The question for Democrats is do we believe that one is screwing the other over or do we believe they are both getting screwed?
