Why the heck is the fundamental question "is there a God" even important?
Here are 10 more important questions:
- "Are all religious people the same?"
- "Should we get inspiration for new laws from religious laws?"
- "Should abortion be made illegal?"
- "Should Intelligent Design be taught in schools?"
- "Is homosexuality wrong?"
- "Is abstinance-only sex education effective?"
- "Is Christianity the best tool to combat radical Islam?"
- "Is religious faith the only way to have a moral view of the world?"
- "Does rejecting Jesus Christ as your savior condemn you to hell?"
- "Is the Republican party the party of moral values?"
These questions are WAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY more important to me than "do you believe in God?".
Look at my list of 10. If your answer to any of the questions on my list is "yes", you are officially on my shit list. On the other hand, I bet most of you can come up with a question more important than "is there a God". There's definitely a lot more than 10.
Please, be my guest.
One last rant:
Liberals of all kinds are against the policies of convervatives of all kinds. THAT'S the battle ground. Whether you're Ayn Rand or Ronald Reagan, I think you're dead wrong. Whether you're Martin Luther King or Ron Reagan Jr., I think we're basically on the same side.
- I don't care if you love anarcho capitalism because you think it's a beautiful extension of Darwinism, or because that 'invisible hand' sounds a lot like a deity. I will fight you tooth and nail.
- I don't care if you want to bomb all Muslims because you're a Christian, or you want to bomb all Muslims because you're an Atheist. I will fight you tooth and nail.
- I don't care if you believe Hurricane Katrina victims deserved what they got because they're lazy good-for-nothings, or because they disobeyed your religious laws. I will fight you tooth and nail.
On the other hand...
- It doesn't matter if you want to protect God's creation, or you want to protect the scientific anomaly that we all live on. If you care about global warming, you're on my side.
- It doesn't matter if you read it in your holy scriptures or if you just think UN declarations are really swell. If you care about human rights, you're on my side.
- It doesn't matter if you think lies are immoral or merely intellectually offensive. If you're for honest government, you're on my side.
... who are you going to spend your time arguing with -- your allies, or your enemies?
