OK, don't hate me for seeing the Dem glass as half-empty, but . . .
Americans love action. The phrase "cut to the chase" strike a very deep chord here in the USA. From John Wayne to Teddy Roosevelt to General Patton to folks who uttered "let's roll" as they disrupted that 9/11 flight over western Pennsylvania--Americans are drawn to pro-active behavior like moths to flames.
And unfortunately for so many of us who hang our hopes on the Democratic party, it is the Republicans who are the party of action. We thoughtful Democrats, while often correct, right, spot-on, etc., are left scratching our heads while themes, actions, and supporters head on down the road leaving us to worry about analysis and statistics.
I do not pretend to know how to remedy this malady, but I figure mentioning it here in my little diary might spark brighter minds than mine to figure out a way to remedy the situation.
It seems that having idea that involves ACTION is something the Democrats have to figure out IMMEDIATELY. Waiting around for consensus is great when you are in an academic setting or maybe if you are in an organization that allows time for such analysis. But I am here to tell you, in the reality of 2005-06 USA, waiting around is death even your best ideas.
If this were a car race the Republicans would not be waiting around in the pit area until the car was "just so." They's be firing the vehicle up and pushing out on the track even with half the motor oil missing or a third of a tank of gas. The reason is that the crowd will see that thing moving, they'll "see that mother rolling" and they'll cheer and then things will just start to happen.
Anyway, just a Xmas day thought to pass along to the 3 people who will read this on this day. Have a good day everyone.
