I've been following the Goldberg/Cole argument, and I think everyone is missing the correct tack. Folks should lay off on the Chickenhawk argument, as it applies to volunteering for the military in Iraq.
As he himself has stated (this link), he's now too old to volunteer for the military at this point. That, and other issues make this a dead end point.
However, there is a much better option to make the point.
Put simply, good old Jonah doesn't have to volunteer for the military. I think everyone would be quite comfortable if he just took a job
reporting from Iraq, on Iraq for the next year. Please note, this eliminates all of the issues. He still draws a nice paycheck, and in fact can get talking head gigs to suppliment his income. There is no age or physical condition requirement for reporting.
Its a win-win for everyone! I'm sure National review would love to have him over there as special correspondant. Of course, there have to be certain guidelines.
- He must spend 90% of the year in Iraq.
- Of that time, at least half must be spent reporting outside of Baghdad. No sneaky hiding in the Green Zone.
Soeveryone, make sure to send him some mails on this idea! Also to NR, as I'm sure they would love the suggestion. Lets get to it.
